Otten Wins Low Medalist, Men's Golf Ties for First Wofford Intercollegiate Title

Cedric Otten becomes the second Terrier all-time to win low medalist

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sophomore Cedric Otten (-10) became the second Terrier all-time in program history to win low medalist at the Wofford Intercollegiate, as Wofford used a 10-under final-round performance on Tuesday afternoon to rally back from a 14-stroke deficit and tie UNC Wilmington for its first Wofford Intercollegiate title in school history at the par-72 Country Club of Spartanburg. The Terriers stormed back to finish 15-under-par for the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 849, marking a new program-best for its annual home event.

Otten marks the second consecutive Terrier to win low medalist at Wofford's home tournament (Ryan Marter, 2021), as his 54-hole low score of 206 ties with former Wofford great and PGA Tour member Andrew Novak for the third-best tournament score in relation to par in event history and program history.

In his first career tournament win, Otten also collected wins over four top-80 ranked individuals amongst the 96-player field.

Additionally, the Terriers' 15-under performance also marked the program's sixth-best tournament score in relation to par since finishing 12-under at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational in 2016. The tournament victory marks the first since Wofford won the Legacy Intercollegiate on March 1, 2016.

The Terriers sat tied for second with Appalachian State at the conclusion of Monday's second round at 5-under prior to rallying for the 14-stroke comeback. Wofford also led the entire 18-team field in birdies with 70 – seven more than the next team (Appalachian State, 63).

Otten, a Dusseldorf, Germany native, tallied 15 birdies over the tournament's span, using five in Monday's first round to open with a 4-under-par 68 before finishing even in the second to sit tied for fourth after 36 holes. The sophomore then came into Tuesday determined, blazing five birdies to finish the front nine 5-under, and reclaim first individually, en route to adding a birdie on No. 15 and securing co-champion status with a birdie on No. 18 – matching an 18-hole low of 66 for his milestone score of 206.

Furthermore, Otten tied for second amongst the field in par-3 scoring (-1) and par-4 scoring (-1), while also recording two eagles for the tournament.

The Terriers also received a pair of top-20 finishes from sophomore Harry Jones (-1) and Matthew Larkin (-1), both tied for 11th with scores of 215 - marking Larkin's best performance of the spring.

After opening with a first-round 76, Jones dialed back in using five birdies to record a 3-under-par 69 after 36 holes. Jones then used a 3-under back-nine performance, highlighted by birdies on three of Jones' last five holes, to card a 1-under 70. Larkin opened with a season-low 5-under-par 67 in the first round before a 75 would set him back tied for 10th after the second round. The junior then finished strong on Tuesday's back nine, finishing 2-under with a birdie on No. 10 and eagle on No. 17 to card a 73 and continue to reel in UNCW's lead.

Junior Jackson Hill (+3) opened with consecutive 74s in Monday's first and second rounds before notching a 3-under-par 69 in Tuesday's final round, behind seven birdies, to spark the subtle stroke-margin comeback tied for 21st. The performance marks a season-best finish for Hill, while leading the Terriers with a team-high 16 birdies. Senior Walker Jones (+4) finished tied for 37th, finishing strong in the final round with birdies on three of the last five holes for a score of 220.
