CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams finished the outdoor regular season on Friday and Saturday at the Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University. The team set five new school records and had five first place finishes along with numerous top ten finishes in the meet.
In the field events on Friday,
Sebastian LaTorre was fourth in the pole vault at 4.05 meters and third in the javelin at 46.75 meters.
Jenna Reid was second in the hammer with a throw of 50.69 meters to set a new school record and she added a second place in the javelin at 38.74.
Lily Meetze (26.04 meters) and
Marga Van Der Linde (24.66 meters) were fifth and sixth, respectively in the javelin.
Netanya Linares won the pole vault at 3.60 meters, which topped her previous school record. In the long jump,
Rylee Jorgensen was third (5.59 meters),
Netanya Linares was fifth (5.48 meters),
Georgia McDevitt was sixth (5.47 meters) and
Madeline McNinch was seventh at 5.45 meters.
During the running events on Friday,
Madeline McNinch (25.28) was third in the 200 meters, followed by
Jasmine Jefferson in fourth (25.44),
Rylee Jorgensen in seventh (25.73) and
Destiny Shippy ninth (25.79).
Cagan Campbell was ninth in the men's 200 meters at 22.49. In the 1.500 meters,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was sixth at 4:44.92. The 5,000 meters ended the day and for the women
Alexus Atkins was fifth at 18:33.12,
Carolyne Shealy seventh (18:55.17) and
Ava Fowler eighth (19:16.42).
Carson Archie won the men's 5,000 meters in a school record time of 15:05.55, with
Beck Classey finishing seventh in 15:47.48.
On Saturday, the field events began with
Sebastian LaTorre and
James Few finishing seventh and eighth respectively in the shot put. Alexis Rhine cleared 1.40 meters to finish fifth in the high jump.
Christopher Sheppard was ninth in the triple jump at 12.89 meters. In the women's triple jump,
Rylee Jorgensen was fifth at 11.13 meters and
Chandler Robinson was eighth at 10.56 meters.
The Saturday running events began with the Terriers winning the women's 4x100 relay in 46.04 to set a new school record. The men added a third place in the relay at 42.58. The women's 100-meter hurdles saw
Kerrington Johnson take first place in 13.93,
Destiny Shippy third (14.22) and
Netanya Linares fourth (14.43). In the women's 400 meters,
Jasmine Jefferson was second (56.13) and
Dahlia Cutler was fourth (59.05).
Cagan Campbell was third in the men's 400 meters in 48.36 and
Conor Murphy was fourth at 48.42.
In the 400-meter hurdles,
Kerrington Johnson was second (1:03.41),
Marga Van Der Linde was fourth (1:06.11) and
Lily Meetze was seventh (1:10.07).
Elijah Bull won the men's 400-meter hurdles in 54.03. In the finals of the women's 100 meters,
Rylee Jorgensen was third (12.11),
Madeline McNinch was fourth (12.12) and
Georgia McDevitt was eighth (12.40).
Cagan Campbell added a seventh-place finish in the men's 100 meters at 10.90. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Mary Claire Ridgeway (11:27.92) was second and
Morgan Roberts (12:21.44) was third for the women and
Patrick Daly (10:50.06) was seventh for the men. The meet ended with the 4x400 meter relay, which had the women finish second (3:54.02) and the men were also second with a school record time of 3:14.11.
Teams competing in the meet included ETSU, Gardner-Webb, King, Mars Hill, Milligan, Point, Tusculum, UNC Asheville, and Wofford.
The Terriers will next compete at the Southern Conference Championships on April 30 and May 1 in Birmingham, Alabama.
