Jackson Ties for Third, Women’s Golf Places Fourth at Grandover Fall Classic

Maggie Jackson’s career-best finish lifts Terriers to first top-five placement of season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Behind three Terriers in the top-20, including Maggie Jackson's third-place mark, the Wofford women's golf team earned a fourth-place finish in the Grandover Fall Classic at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center. Over three rounds in two days at the par-72 6,155-yard course, the Terriers earned their first top-five placement of the season and first since a runner-up finish in the spring's SoCon Championships with a score of 924.

The top of the individual leaderboard was tight the entire way, but after two rounds of play on day one, Maggie Jackson stood above the rest with a 3-over par 147 to hold first place by a stroke. But a tough final round did Jackson in, as she shot 6-over par on the final day to finish 9-over at 225. Despite this final hiccup, Jackson held on to tie for third place at just three strokes off the lead, earning her first-career top-five finish in third place, a new career-best mark. With 6 birdies, Jackson tied with Xuan Khue Minh Doan for the team lead.

Wofford opened with a first-round 310 and bettered that mark to a 306 in the second to conclude day one at 616 in a tie for third place. Though the team's score dropped slightly to 308 in the final round, the Terriers finished with a 924 at 20-over par in fourth place. It is Wofford's first top-five finish of the 2022 fall season and first since a second-place mark in the SoCon Championships this past spring. Wofford has finished in the top five in now three of its last four tournaments.

Wofford earned wins over eight teams. Only three teams topped the Terriers – winner High Point, follow SoCon foe and tournament host UNCG in second and third-place Howard.

The Terriers amassed 141 pars, tied for third-most in the 12-team field. Wofford was fifth with 25 birdies. Thanks to Jackson and Lindsey Hollis each recording an eagle, the Terriers were one of four squads to tally an eagle in the event and the only team with two. Wofford was the best team in the field on the par-3 holes with a 3.15 average for 9-over.

Doan was the next-best Terrier after Jackson with a 231 (77-78-76) to finish tied for 12th. This placement bests her previous mark of 20th in her first tournament, as the freshman has placed top-20 in both of her collegiate tournaments.

Hollis joined Jackson and Doan as a top-20 finisher with a tied-for-15th placement. Hollis shot 232 as her scores steadily improved with each round, building from an opening 80 to 77 in round two before finishing with a final-day score of 75. It is the senior's ninth-career top-20 finish.

Rounding out Wofford's team competitors are Nicole Amos (237) and Taylor Burch (248). Amos tied for 28th after shooting 81-77-79, while Burch placed in a tie for 45th with an 80-85-83 score.

Karola Soe competed as an individual and tied for 61st with a 253 score to conclude Wofford's lineup in the event.

The Terriers will return to the course for the Edisto Island Invitational hosted by College of Charleston. That event is set to take place in Charleston, S.C. from Sunday, Oct. 9 to Tuesday, Oct. 11.
