SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's golf team hosted its annual Terrier Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday at the Carolina Country Club, a par-72, 6,056-yard course, and Wofford placed in 10
th in the event with a 934 score. Freshman
Bella Kent paced the Terriers with a top-20 result, landing in a tie for 17
th with a 229 score.
Wofford posted a 311 and 315 in each of the first two rounds on day one of the event before improving to a 308 on the final day. This led to a 934 final score at 70-over par, good for 10
th in the 14-team event.
The team portion of the tournament came down to the wire, as Elon edged Samford by three strokes for the win. Samford concluded day one in first place by a single stroke after scoring a tournament-best 284 in round two, but with a four-stroke advantage in the final round, the Phoenix rebounded for the victory.
Terrier freshman
Bella Kent earned her third-career top 20 by tying for 17
th in the 75-player field. The Berkshire, England, native was 13-over with a 229 score. After shooting 79 in round one, she recovered with a 75 in each of the final two rounds. Kent was the seventh-best golfer in the field on par 4s, averaging 4.17. She logged seven birdies and 30 pars in the tournament.
The individual portion of the event also came down to the very end. Winthrop's Constanca Mendonca carded a first-round 66 for the early lead, but Western Carolina's Brielle Mapanao responded with her own 66 in round two to pull into second after day one. Mapanao carried that momentum into the final day to claim low medalist honors, edging Mendonca by three strokes.
Regina Parra opened with a 75 before posting 81 and 80 in the final two rounds to finish at 236, tied for 41
st.
Lilli Horn scored 238 with rounds of 77-79-82 to tie for 44
th. Horn's 10 birdies were tied for third most in the field.
Maggie Jackson and
Taylor Burch each tied for 49
th with a score of 240. Jackson shot 86 and 80 on the first day before rebounding with final-round 74. Burch carded 80-81-79 to round out the Terrier lineup.
Freshman
Sofia Pedrero made her collegiate debut competing as an individual in the event. She carded 86-77-86 en route to a 249, tying for 63
rd.
The Terriers will be back in action one more time before the fall slate wraps up. Wofford hits the course again next week at the French Broad Invitational hosted by UNC Asheville. The event runs from Monday, October 30, to Tuesday, October 31, in Asheville, North Carolina. The last time Wofford participated in the event was in the fall of 2021, and the Terriers earned the win.
