Indoor Track and Field Opens Season

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams began the season on Saturday at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-off held at the JDL Fast Track. Wofford had numerous top ten finishes, including a pair of second place finishes by Ella Tennant in the 60 meters and 200 meters. Nevius Fisher broke the school record in the 60 meters with a second place finish.
 
On the track, in the 400 meters Brooke Sayre was 12th at 1:01.32 for the women and Thomas Stamper was 11th for the men at 52.28. In the finals of the 60 meters, Ella Tennant was second overall at 7.62 in the women's race and Nevius Fisher was second at 6.83 in the men's race to break his school record of 6.87 that was set last season. Mara Spadafora was 15th in the 600 meters at 1:50.30, while Sumter Cooper (1:29.85) and Jackson Casey (1:31.03) were 15th and 16th respectively in the men's event.
 
For the 800 meters, Dannielle King was seventh overall at 2:25.91 and Kristen Hallman was 15th at 2:37.32. For the men in the 800 meters, Will Berger was seventh at 2:01.77 and Ethan Hearn was 14th at 2:10.08. Ella Tennant added a second-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 25:45. Robert Hilsman (22.84) was ninth in the 200 meters, with Zion Bennett (22.91) finishing eleventh. In the 4x400 meter relays, the women were second overall in 4:05.74 and the men were third (3:27.57) and fifth (3:31.48) of the 16 teams.
 
In the field events, Sebastian LaTorre was fourth in the pole vault at 4.25 meters and Jacob Lawson was 10th at 3.65 meters. Chase Edwards was 20th in the shot put at 12.88 meters and 20th in the weight throw at 12.69 meters. In the long jump, Nevius Fisher was fourth for the men at 6.87 meters and Madeline McNinch was 13th for the women at 5.23 meters. Olivia Bagg was fifth in the high jump at 1.59 meters, with Ava Cooper 14th at 1.49 meters. In the women's weight throw, Ellie Sawicki was 17th at 13.52 and Dani Emmen was 18th at 12.96 meter.
 
The meet featured 30 schools, including Appalachian State, Davidson, East Tennessee State, Elon, Furman, N.C. State, UNC Greensboro, USC Upstate, Wake Forest and Wofford.  
           
After exams and the semester break, the Terriers will return to Winston-Salem for the JDL Mondo College Invitational on Saturday, January 13.
