SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today its athletes of the month for November with Wofford's
Sarah Barham earning the defensive recognition for volleyball. The selections are made by the league office.
Â
This is Barham's fourth-career monthly recognition, making her the first SoCon volleyball player to earn four player of the month awards. It is her second of the season after also claiming the October award. She is only the second Terrier to repeat, joining Catie Cronister who went back-to-back offensively in October and November in 2017. With
Abbey Richman earning the defensive recognition in September, the Terriers have swept all three of this season's defensive players of the month.
Â
The Summerfield, North Carolina, native was a force to be reckoned with at the net in November, recording 46 total blocks, 21 of which were solo. She averaged 1.44 blocks per set. Only three players in the league (herself excluded) had more total blocks than she had solo blocks. Offensively, she was just as dangerous with 83 kills, tops on the Terriers, and a .368 hitting percentage.
Â
Barham, a senior, recorded double-digit blocks twice during the month and double-digit kills three times. She put those together on senior night against ETSU in Wofford's five-set victory with a career-high 20 kills and 11 blocks, her first-career double-double. Barham was named the Most Outstanding Player of the SoCon Tournament after totaling 24 kills and 20 blocks in the three matches, including 11 blocks in the championship match against Samford. Those 11 denials helped Barham break her own single-season program record, topping her previous mark of 138 from 2021. She ended the season with 146 after adding in three against Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament. Barham also recorded eight kills against the Wildcats.
Â
Among her accolades in November, Barham was tabbed SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on November 13. She was named All-SoCon First Team before garnering her MOP honor for the SoCon Tournament.
Â
Barham and the Terriers concluded the 2023 campaign with a 23-8 record, their most wins at the Division I level. With an 11-5 SoCon clip, they set a new program best. Wofford won the SoCon Tournament for the first tournament championship for any Wofford women's team sport, and the season concluded with the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in a match-up at Kentucky.
