SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford junior
Alex Horn has been named the Southern Conference men's tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 7-13, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Horn went a combined 3-1 on the week with a ranked doubles win.
Against Campbell on March 7, Horn partnered with
Callum Rendle for a 6-4 win over Damien Nezar and Benjamin Maes at No. 2 doubles. At No. 5 singles, the Louisville, Kentucky, native picked up a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1) win over Noe Macquart.
Against No. 9 North Carolina on Sunday, Horn and Rendle teamed up again at No. 2, this time taking down the Tar Heels' 37th-ranked duo of Brian Cernoch and Benjamin Kittay, 6-3. Horn then fell to Kittay at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 7-5.
The weekly award is the first of Horn's career. He is the first Terrier to earn player of the week honors in the 2023 season.
Mark Endler was honored last season (March 15) and this is just the tenth time a Terrier has been honored since joining the league.
Also nominated: Hayden Shoemake (The Citadel), Dimitri Badra (ETSU), Elijah Poritzky (Furman), Tymofiy Khrystyuk (UNCG) and Ryan Mudre (Chattanooga).
