ROCK HILL, S.C. – Behind a pair of four-hit efforts from
Brice Martinez and
Ryan Galanie, the Wofford baseball team defeated the Winthrop Eagles 9-2 Tuesday night at The Winthrop Ballpark. Wofford improves to 27-9 on the season while Winthrop drops to 17-21.

Mike Eggert (3-1) started for the Terriers and picked up the win after 4.0 innings of work with only two hits and a walk allowed. He gave up no runs and was perfect through the first 3.2 innings. Five different Terrier pitchers toed the rubber, with none of them allowing more than two hits individually.

Eagle starter Riley Huge (1-3) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs on six hits and three walks in 3.1 innings.

Wofford batters totaled 18 hits in the contest, led by
Ryan Galanie with four. He drove home three runs, two of which came via a two-run homer.
Brice Martinez also notched four hits with an RBI. Like Galanie,
Dixon Black also clubbed a homer, his a solo shot. Six total Terriers tallied multiple hits.
Marshall Toole added three.
Jack Renwick recorded a hit in the contest, and he added a sacrifice bunt. That bunt extended his national lead to 18, which also ties the Wofford single-season program record.

Wofford struck first in the top of the first with three runs.
Trey Yunger started things off with a sacrifice fly.
Brice Martinez and
Cameron Gill each followed with an RBI single, giving Wofford the early 3-0 advantage.

Ryan Galanie contributed another RBI single in the top of the fourth, extending the Terrier lead to 4-0.

The Terriers tacked on a couple more in the seventh with a pair of Winthrop wild pitches. The errant throws allowed
Dixon Black and Martinez to come around and score, making the Wofford lead 6-0.

The Eagles finally cracked onto the scoreboard with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. The margin was slimmed to 6-1.

Wofford used a pair of long balls in the eighth to extend its lead. Galanie blasted a two-run homer, and two batters later Black launched a solo shot to make the score 9-1.

Winthrop would plate a run in the ninth, but it would not matter as
Holden Wilder clamped down to seal the victory, 9-2.

The Terriers are back in action this weekend to host Samford in a three-game conference series. Game one starts at 5:00 p.m. Friday evening at Russell C. King Field. The contest will be aired regionally on The CW 62 in partnership with Ingles and the Nexstar Media Group while being simulcast on ESPN+ (paid subscription required).
