COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Wofford men's and women's track and field teams closed out the regular season by competing at the USC Open on Saturday at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track. In the highly competitive meet with over 40 teams, the Terriers came away with numerous top ten finishes.
The day began with the 5,000 meters, as
Alexus Atkins finished seventh for the women (18:17.42) and
Carson Archie finished ninth for the men (15:32.85).
Mary Claire Ridgeway was ninth in the 1,500 meters at 4:57.98. In the 4x100 relay, the Wofford women were seventh at 46.05 and the men were eleventh at 41.67. In the finals of the 100-meter hurdles,
Kerrington Johnson ran a 13.84 to finish sixth.
Marga Van Der Linde was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.07, while
Grant Witherspoon was sixth at 54.25 for the men in the event.
In the field events, Pamela Ann Pope was tied for fourth in the pole vault at 3.00 meters.
Jenna Reid was third in the javelin at 41.78 meters and eleventh in the hammer throw at 49.29 meters.
Ellie Sawicki added a seventh place in the shot put at 11.86 meters, while
Chase Edwards was ninth in the men's discus at 45.52 meters. In the invitational high jump flights,
Netanya Linares was fifth at 1.66 meters for the women and
Tanner Henry was at 2.00 meters to tie for sixth place for the men. In the long jump,
Nevius Fisher was fourth at 6.79 meters and
Andrew Botros was fifth in the pole vault at 3.48 meters.
Overall, 46 teams competed at the USC Open. Division I teams in addition to Wofford included Alabama State, Charlotte, The Citadel, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Davidson, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Iona College, Mercer, North Carolina, Quinnipiac, South Carolina, UNC Wilmington, USC Upstate, and Winthrop.
On Friday, several Terriers also took part in the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta.
Kerrington Johnson was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.74 and
Jenna Reid was seventh in the javelin at 42.33 meters.
Wofford will be back in action at the Southern Conference Championships on May 8 and 9 at Western Carolina.
