SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's golf team hosted its annual Wofford Invitational, finishing fourth in the 17-team field at the Country Club of Spartanburg, a par-71, 6,703-yard course. The Terriers also employed a "B" team, which placed 10
th. A pair of Terriers,
Harry Jones (6
th) and
Cedric Otten (eighth), finished in the top 10.
The Terriers finished at 8-under par with a score of 844 after shooting 282-284-278. Wofford's "B" team placed 10
th after carding 290-289-288 for a score of 867.
Between the two teams, the full Wofford squad combined for 307 pars and 102 birdies. The Terriers also notched a total of six eagles, which matches the highest by a single team, Radford.
Chattanooga ran away with the title in the 17-team event, setting tournament records with a 43-under par score of 809. The 49
th-ranked Mocs finished 30 strokes ahead of the second-place squad, South Florida.
Harry Jones was the top Terrier in the event, placing in a tie for sixth after carding 70-69-68 for a score of 207, 6-under par.
Cedric Otten, last year's champion, placed in a tie for eighth to join Jones in the top 10. Otten carded 69-72-67 to score 208, 5-under par. Otten's 16 birdies were second most in the tournament. Jones was just behind with 15.
Chattanooga's John Houk earned low medalist honors in the 90-player field, setting tournament records with a 196 score at 17-under par.
Will Jones earned a top-20 finish by placing in a tie for 12
th with a 4-under 209. He carded 70-71-68.
Jackson Hill was just outside the top 20 in 22
nd, scoring 214 (73-70-71). Hill was the only Terrier to record multiple eagles, securing two.
Walker Jones (72-71-72) and
Matthew Larkin (70-73-72) each tied for 29
th with a 215 score.
Jay Beach (75-72-74) finished tied for 56
th with a score of 221, and
Ben Jordan was tied for 65
th with a score of 222 (73-75-74).
Rounding out the Wofford lineups are
Bailey Means (76-77-75) and
Max Cranford (75-73-80), who each scored 228 to place tied for 79
th. Cranford tallied the most pars of any Terrier with 36, third-most in the field.
Wofford will return to action from April 10-12 at the Mason Rudolph Championship. The event is hosted by Vanderbilt in Franklin, Tenn. and will serve as the final tournament for the Terriers before the Southern Conference Championship.
