SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Head Coach Elissa Post era of Wofford women's soccer and the 2023 season officially kicks off Thursday, August 17, in Charlotte against Queens (NC). Following that match the team will be in action four more times in the month of August.
 
August 17- at Queens (NC)
The first meeting with the Royals since 1994 and the first with both as both D-I opponents, Wofford will look to even the series at one a piece. Senior Goalkeeper Caroline Doss attempts to replicate, if not improve on, her 2022 campaign that etched her name into the Wofford record books in the career saves category, currently sitting eighth all time at 138 saves. As a team, the Terriers return eight players that started at least ten games each, including two in Doss and Senior Midfielder Addie Marlett, who started all 20 matches last season. Add on another five players that saw action in at least ten games last season and Wofford is returning 13 players that received significant playing time. Among the returnees are: 2022 leading goal scorer, Sophomore Ansley Elizalde, 2022 assists leader, Senior Alexis Mapplebeck, 2022 shots on goal leader, Junior Ashley Grant. Grant and Elizalde shared the team lead for points scored last season at eight each. This match can be seen on ESPN+.
 
August 20- at Elon
Another drought is broken as Wofford travels to Elon, North Carolina for the first time since Elon left the Southern Conference after the 2013 season. The Terriers own a slight 3-2-2 advantage playing at Rudd Field but have been unable to top the Phoenix since 2010 (0-2-2 in that span). Elon finished last season with a 9-6-3 record and 5-3-1 in the conference that was good enough for the fourth seed in the Colonial Athletic Association (now the Coastal Athletic Association) but was bounced by Towson in the first round of the CAA tourney 2-1. August 24- USC Upstate
Fans' first opportunity to see the Terriers in real game action comes against in town rival USC Spartanburg. Wofford has owned the Spartans in the series going 8-1-1 all time and a perfect 4-0-0 record at Snyder Field. Coach Post would join every other Wofford women's soccer Head Coach in winning their home debuts (Interim Head Coach Eric Lewis tied UNC Asheville in 2018). The last time these two teams took the pitch together in 2021, it was Addie Marlett assisting former Wofford Midfielder McKenzie Guest just shy of the 32nd minute to put the Terriers ahead 1-0 where the score would remain at the final whistle. August 27- Davidson
The other half of the Terriers short two match homestand pits them against Davidson, a team they have failed to best since 2003, when they did so here at Snyder Field. Wofford took the Wildcats down to the wire last season, but the former Southern Conference foe scored a goal in the 81st minute to secure a 1-0 win. This match is the first time Wofford will welcome Davidson to Spartanburg since losing a double overtime thriller in 2015. This match can also be seen on ESPN+.
 
August 31- at UNC Asheville
Wofford finishes its August slate of games with a trip up to Asheville to face the Bulldogs in the return game of a home and home series. Last season's matchup with UNC Asheville saw Ashley Grant score the opening goal near immediately in the second minute to put the Terriers ahead 1-0 where they remained until two Bulldog goals in rapid succession made Ansley Elizalde's first collegiate goal in the 86th minute the equalizer of a 2-2 tie. A win over UNC Asheville would be the team's first since 2014.
