SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today the recipients of its volleyball players of the week honors with Wofford's Abbey Richman named the Defensive Player of the Week for all competition from August 28 – September 3. The awards are selected by the league office.
 
This is the first player of the week honor for Wofford since week 12 of last season, a setter of the week nod. This is Richman's second-career weekly honor, and it is the first defensive player of the week selection for a Terrier since Richman earned her first nod in week five of the 2020-21 season.
 
Richman, a senior from Carmel, Indiana, anchored the Wofford defense as the libero in all three matches during the Wofford Invitational. Behind 48 total digs at a rate of 5.33 per set, Richman's efforts helped lift Wofford to a perfect 3-0 showing in its own event, notably not dropping a single set. Richman's digs per set rate topped the conference for the week. She added five service aces and eight assists. By notching double-digit digs in all three matches, Richman has extended her streak of consecutive double-digit dig matches to 26 in a row dating back to last season.
 
The Terriers dispatched South Carolina State, Georgia State and Elon each in straight-sets over the weekend. Richman was named to the Wofford Invitational All-Tournament Team after her performances, which included topping the Terriers in digs in all three matches, highlighted by a high of 21 against Georgia State.
 
Wofford returns to action tomorrow night for the middle match of a seven-match homestand. The Terriers host High Point at 6:00 p.m. before hosting the Terrier Invite this weekend.
