Rachael Rose Earns Third-Straight Player of the Week Honor

Junior recognized by SoCon after averaging a double-double

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has announced its selection for women's basketball player of the week for competition from December 26 to January 1 with Wofford's Rachael Rose earning the award. The selection is made by the league office.

Rose claims the recognition for a third consecutive week, making her the first SoCon women's basketball player to three-peat as player of the week since Mercer's Amanda Thompson in the 2018-19 season. She is the first Terrier to ever garner three in a row. This is Rose's fifth time honored this season and the sixth of her career.

"Rachael continued her fantastic play this past week with 35 points, 21 rebounds, 13 assists and just one turnover. Her play and leadership have put us in a good position and mindset going into conference play," said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "I'm really proud and very appreciative of her both on and off the court."

The junior guard totaled 35 points between two games during the week, averaging 17.5 points per game between the contest at Georgia and the home bout against North Greenville. With 21 total rebounds and an average of 10.5, she averaged a double-double for the week. Rose, a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, added in 13 assists and four steals while committing only a single turnover. She shot 52.4 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from beyond the arc, going 7-of-9. Rose was also perfect with a 6-of-6 clip at the charity stripe.

Rose opened her week with a double-double at Georgia by way of 22 points and 12 rebounds. It was her third-straight double-double and 20-point game. She dished six assists and tallied a steal. She was instrumental in Wofford recording 15 total three-pointers to tie its single-game program record as she hit six of them, a new career high. Returning home for a New Year's Day contest, Rose followed with 13 points against North Greenville to push her program-record double-digit scoring streak to 33 games. She swiped three steals while adding in nine boards and seven assists to just miss another double-double while also flirting with a triple-double.

After concluding non-conference play at 8-6, the Terriers now have their sights set on Southern Conference action. League play opens next Thursday when Wofford travels to UNCG. Tip-off against the Spartans is set for 7:00 p.m. on January 11, and the Terriers will then travel to Cullowhee to face Western Carolina two days later.
