SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Her Hoops Stats has announced the 2024-25 preseason watch list for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, and Wofford's
Rachael Rose is one of the 25 preseason honorees. The Becky Hammon Award was first given out in 2020, with South Dakota's Ciara Duffy being named the inaugural winner. Gonzaga's Yvonne Ejim won the most recent award in 2024.
Â
Rose was one of five finalists for the award last season. A First-Team All-Southern Conference selection, the native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, claimed the SoCon Player of the Year recognition for the second-straight season. She is the first Terrier ever to secure the honor twice, let alone repeat.
Â
Now a senior, Rose set multiple single-season program records as a junior during the previous campaign. Notably, her 670 points, 163 assists and 87.0 percent free throw percentage all set new high marks for the program. On top of leading the SoCon in all three categories, she also topped the league in assist/turnover ratio (2.26), assists per game (5.4), points per game (22.3) and steals per game (2.13). Her scoring clip finished the season at seventh best in the entire nation.
Â
Notching multiple milestones, Rose reached both the 1,000 points and 500 rebounds plateaus last season. She also recorded the first triple-double in program history against Furman. Holding another program best, Rose has scored in double-digits in 49 consecutive games.
Â
To be eligible for this award, players must compete in one of the 26 conferences deemed to be "mid-major." The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC. Additionally, players from Oregon State and Washington State are ineligible this year as membership in the Pac-12 Conference evolves. The 15-player midseason watch list will be announced in January, followed by 10 semifinalists announced in February. The five finalists will be announced in early March, with the winner announced around the Final Four. The list is fluid, and players may play their way on or off it over the course of the season.
