FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. – The Wofford women's golf team wrapped up its fall slate of action in style with a 920 score, claiming the win in a seven-team field at the Ocean Creek Course at the Fripp Island Resort. Three Terriers placed in the top 10, highlighted by the duo of
Regina Parra and
Bella Kent tying for fourth place.
This is Wofford's first tournament win since the Islander Classic in February of 2022. Though Wofford opened the three-day event with a 310 to sit in fifth place, the Terriers responded well each of the following two days. After a round two score of 307, Wofford moved into first place, and the Terriers held firm with a 303 in third round. At 920, 56-over, Wofford won by four strokes over second-place Gardner-Webb. The Terriers tallied the most birdies in the event with 35, eight more than the three second-place squads.
"We seemed to sleep our way through the first round and put ourselves near the bottom of the scoreboard," said head coach
Angie Ridgeway. "When it was super windy on the second and third days, the team showed that they were up for the challenge. We had the lowest team score both days, and we came out on top! I'm so proud of them."
The Terriers were led by
Bella Kent and
Regina Parra, both of whom tied for fourth place in the 41-player field. Kent tallied rounds of 73-78-77 to card 228 at 12-over. Kent's nine birdies tied for the third most in the event by an individual. Parra matched that final score, bouncing back after a struggle of 80 in the first round. Parra carded a 74 in each of the final two rounds to move into the fourth-place tie and secure her first-career top five. During the event, Parra recorded Wofford's lone eagle, the first of her career. She added seven birdies as one of four Terriers with at least seven.
Gardner-Webb's Neza Siftar won the event with a 6-over 222 score, three strokes ahead of the runner-up.
Maggie Jackson tied for eighth place, marking a trio of Terriers in the top 10. Jackson carded a 77 and 78 to open, but she finished strong with a 75 to post a 230 score and secure her first top 10 since the spring of 2024 and her fourth overall. Jackson put home 11 birdies in the event, the most of any competitor.
Taylor Burch recorded a 235 score to place 13
th for her third-career top 20. Burch carded rounds of 80-77-78 to earn the result. Competing as an individual,
Delaney Wade placed in a tie for 14
th to mark five total Terriers in top 20. The result is the freshman's first-career top 20 after carding 236. Despite an opening-round 84, Wade recovered nicely by tallying a 76 in each of the final two rounds. Wade posted seven birdies, tied for fifth most in the field.
Rounding out the Terrier lineup was
Lilli Horn, who narrowly missed out on the top 20 with a 22
nd-place finish. After an opening 84, she also bounced back with rounds of 78 and 79 to follow, resulting in a 241 score.
Wofford has concluded its fall slate of play and returns to the course in the spring. The second half of the campaign begins in February with the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, hosted by Mercer.
