BOONE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams began the season on Friday and Saturday at the John Weaver Invitational hosted by Appalachian State at the Holmes Convocation Center. Wofford had numerous top-five finishes, including two first place finishes by
Olivia Bagg (high jump and 55-meter hurdles) and a first place in the 400 meters by
Taylor Jennings-Ward.
In the field events on Friday, Patrick Green was second in the men's triple jump at 14.15 meters and
Andrea Landrum was third in the women's event at 10.94.
Olivia Burroughs cleared 3.18 meters in the pole vault for fifth place. In the women's weight throw,
Dani Emmen was third at 13.86 meters and
Ellie Sawicki was fourth with a personal-best 13.85 meters.
The Saturday field events began with the Terriers taking the top three spots in the women's high jump with
Olivia Bagg (1.57m),
Ne'Rya Vassell (1.54m), and
Ava Cooper (1.48m) sweeping the podium. Patrick Green was fifth in the men's long jump at 6.43 meters, while
Jake Ross was fourth in the men's high jump at 1.93 meters to set a personal best.
Ellie Sawicki was fourth in the shot put at 11.58 meters.
In the running events that started on Saturday, Wofford took the top four spots in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles, with
Olivia Bagg setting a personal best of 8.31, followed by Isabelle Duchemin (8.65),
Marga Van Der Linde (8.81), and
Irene Pardo (8.82).
Jackson Casey was fifth in the men's 55-meter hurdles at 8.99. In the finals of the 55-meters,
Ella Tennant was fourth for the women in 7.20 and
Nigel Ransby was fourth for the men in 6.50.
Andrew York was second in the men's mile at 4:44.05.
The women's 400 meters was also swept by the Terriers, with
Taylor Jennings-Ward (59.52) followed by Tangela Green's personal best of 1:00.97 and
Marga Van Der Linde (1:02.90). In the men's 400 meters,
Thomas Stamper took second place at 51.82 and
Sumter Cooper was fifth at 53.09. In the 800 meters,
Dannielle King was second (2:24.55),
Mara Spadafora was third (2:34.69), and Ne'Rya Russell was fourth (2:40.53). Colson Knott was fourth in the men's 800 meters at 2:11.38. In the men's 300 meters,
Shane Olander was third at 38.07 and
Christian Claytor was fifth at 39.39. Nathan Hopkins was third in the men's 3,000 meters at 9:51.70 and
Andrew York was fourth at 9:58.30.
In the 4x300 meter relays to close the meet, the women were second in 2:48.04 and the men were also second in 2:56.54.
After exams and the semester break, the Terriers will visit Winston-Salem for the JDL Mondo College Invitational on Saturday, January 18.
