Rachael Rose Named to National Player of the Year Watch List

Rose one of 40 tabbed for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USBWA announced today its 40-player watch list for the Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Year, and Wofford's Rachael Rose is among the honorees. Members of the association's board of directors chose the players that will be considered as contenders for the National Player of the Year.

Rose is the first player in program history to be tabbed on the national player of the year watch list. Her season resume grows as she has also been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.

Rose is leading the Southern Conference in a plethora of statistical categories, including scoring (22.1), rebounding (8.7) and assists (5.8). Rose's points per game mark is 10th best in the nation, and she is dishing the 16th-most assists per game. The junior guard adds in 56 steals, second in the conference, and she is stout at the charity stripe with an 88.5 free throw percentage, 20th in the country.

A native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Rose owns a league-best eight double-doubles this season and the league's only triple-double, which was the first in Wofford program history. She has scored 20 or more points in 20 games this season and in each of the last nine. She has scored in double-digits in each of the last 45 contests, a program-record streak.

Among her accolades, Rose has reached multiple milestones this season. She secured her 1,000th point against NC Central earlier in the campaign before becoming the 19th player to reach 1,000 in a Wofford uniform against ETSU. She added her 500th rebound as well against Chattanooga.

Rose and the Terriers conclude the regular season this weekend by hosting ETSU and Chattanooga. Wofford first plays the Buccaneers on Thursday, February 29, at 7:00 p.m. in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium before welcoming the Mocs to town two days later.

The 40 honored players for Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and All-America consideration will be placed on the association's annual awards ballot, which will be distributed to members today. The ballot also includes the Tamika Catchings National Freshman Player of the Year Award, the Women's National Coach of the Year Award and the 15-woman USBWA All-America Team. Members will have until Sunday, March 10 to vote for all of the honors that are based on regular-season performance. Write-ins will be accepted on the ballot as well.

The USBWA board will then review and verify the results so that its All-America Team, Freshman Player of the Year and National Coach of the Year will be announced before the start of the men's NCAA Tournament.

The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award winner is to be announced at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Cleveland, from April 7-9. The formal presentation of the trophy will follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
