COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed on Friday at the South Carolina Invitational, with additional Terriers competing at the VMI Winter Relays on Friday and Saturday. Wofford had numerous first place finishes and had school records set by
Cameron Dalton (200m) and
Jasmine Jefferson (400m).
At the South Carolina Invitational,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was 12
th in the mile at 5:29.44. In the 400 meters,
Zion Bennett was seventh (49.95),
Thomas Stamper was ninth (50.22) and
Conor Murphy was eleventh (50.72).
Jasmine Jefferson took first place in the women's 400 meters in 55.82, besting her previous school record of 56.16 set last year. In the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, JaKayla Campbell was fourth (9.11) and
Marga Van Der Linde (13.11) was seventh for the women, while
Grant Witherspoon was fourth (8.54) for the men.
In the finals of the 60 meters,
Cameron Dalton was sixth for the men (7.04) and
Madeline McNinch was fourth for the women (7.74).
Will Berger took eleventh place in the men's 800 meters (1:57.77), with
Brooke Sayre twelfth for the women in the event at 2:25.61.
Cameron Dalton added a first place in the 200 meters at 21.63, breaking his previous school record of 21.71, while
Nevius Fisher was ninth at 22.10. In the 4x400 relays to end the day, the Wofford men's team of
Zion Bennett,
Thomas Stamper,
Conor Murphy, and
Cameron Dalton was third in 3:19.64. The women's squad of Danielle King,
Brooke Sayre,
Madeline McNinch and
Jakayla Campbell was fifth at 4:11.87.
The field events opened with a fourth-place finish in the high jump by
Jake Ross (1.86m). In the women's long jump
Madeline McNinch was fifth (5.49m) and
Irene Pardo was eighth (5.39m). For the men in the long jump, Patrick Green was third (6.61m) and
Christopher Sheppard was eighth (6.37m). Sheppard added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump at 12.88 meters.
Ellie Sawicki took sixth place in the shot put at 11.60 meters. In the men's pole vault,
Jacob Lawson was fourth (3.75m) and
Andrew Botros was fifth (3.60m). In the women's weight throw,
Dani Emmen was first at 13.47meters and
Ellie Sawicki was third at 13.35 meters.
Chase Edwards was sixth in the shot put at 13.46 meters.
The multis competed at the VMI Winter Relays on Friday and Saturday in Lexington, Virginia. Twenty schools participated in the meet. In the pentathlon,
Olivia Bagg took first place with 3427 points which included a first place in the 60-meter hurdles.
Sherika Christie was fifth with 3135 points, as she was firs tint he shot put and long jump.
Jackson Casey was ninth in the heptathlon with 3502 points
The Terriers will compete in the final regular season indoor meet of the season on February 9 and 10 at the VMI Winter Classic. The Southern Conference Championship will be held February 24 and 25 at VMI as well.
