Box Score Boiling Springs, NC – Wofford softball conceded two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lose in walk-off fashion to the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs 7-6 on Wednesday, March 27.
Wofford manufactured two runs in the fifth inning to take a lead first by working back-to-back walks from
Gracie Parker and
Hope Ingle followed by an
Abbi Campbell fielder's choice that turned into
Hannah Maddox (who pinch ran for Parker) scoring off a Gardner-Webb error to tie the game at four. Two batters later
Kate Platte scored
Lilly Compton (pinch running for Ingle) off a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-4 ballgame.
Platte ended the night as Wofford's most productive hitter going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a stolen base. The redshirt freshman has now strung together consecutive games with multiple hits, multiple RBIs and a stolen base.
Hannah Maddox added Wofford's final run of the night in the sixth inning with an RBI single to left field that scored
Bergan Needles, who was pinch running for
Megan Towery who doubled to start the inning. The double from Towery was the first double of her career and the second extra base hit in three games from the freshman (homered in game two at Mercer).
Both
Hope Ingle and
Abbi Campbell knocked in RBIs in the third inning to start scoring for the Terriers. Ingle's RBI is her 14th of the season and increases her team lead while Campbell's RBI is number six on the year to move her up to a tie for fifth on the team.
Defensively Wofford threw three pitchers with
