Kent Second as Women’s Golf Finishes Seventh in Puerto Rico

Freshman’s final-round surge secures career-best result

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – Paced by freshman Bella Kent's 2-under performance, the Wofford women's golf team finished in seventh place in The Puerto Rico Classic. The Terriers recorded a 909 score on the par-72, 6,026-yard Palmas Del Mar Flamboyan Course. Kent's performance placed her in second place.

Wofford finished with a score of 909, 45 over par. The Terriers posted a 297 in round one before a round-two 307. A final-round 305 moved Wofford up a spot on the leaderboard into a seventh-place result in the 12-team field.

Florida Gulf Coast claimed the event's title with a 1-over 865, topping second-place California Baptist by seven strokes.

Bella Kent was the top Terrier, putting forth the best performance yet of her young career. The freshman tallied a 2-under score of 214, tying for second place and finishing just one stroke behind the winner, UNCG's Ava Romfo. Kent opened strong with a 68 in round one before a 76 in the second round. She recovered nicely, however, carding a 70 in the final round to move up two spots back into second. Her 2-under mark is tied for fifth best in program history in relation to par, and her round-one 68 is tied with Terrier assistant coach Alex Rankin for the third-lowest round score in program history. Kent's 214 ties her own score from the fall's Golfweek Red Sky Classic for second-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Kent recorded 12 birdies in the event, tied for the most in the 71-player field.

Maggie Jackson placed in a tie for 32nd after carding 228 (74-78-76), 12-over. She put home an eagle in the event, one of only eight recorded across all competitors. Lilli Horn tied for 47th with a 234 score (77-79-78). Lindsey Hollis carded 236 (78-77-81) to place in 55th, and Regina Parra rounds out the Wofford lineup in a tie for 57th with a 238 (78-76-84).

The Terriers will be back in action next weekend by hosting the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The three-day event runs from Friday, March 15 to Sunday, March 17, and will be hosted at the Moss Creek Golf Club.
