ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Asheville Bulldog Invitational at the Karl Straus Track on Saturday. The Terriers had numerous top ten finishes in the meet, including four first places.
In the track events,
Alexus Atkins was fifth in the 5,000 meters at 19:29.05 for the women and
John Bolinger was tenth for the men at 16:47.33. The 4x100 relay saw the Wofford women finishing first in 46.68, while the men were ninth at 43.75. In the 100-meter hurdles, the Terriers had four finishers in the top seven, led by
Jakayla Campbell in third at 14.63 and
Olivia Bagg fourth at 14.65. For the men in the 110-meter hurdles,
Grant Witherspoon was third at 15.06 and
Archie Woodard was fifth at 16.04.
For the 400 meters, the women were led by
Dannielle King in fifth (59.93) and
Monic Green in tenth (1:03.53). The men had
Cameron Dalton take second place (49.87), with
Thomas Stamper third (50.08) and
Zion Bennett in ninth (50.99).
Brooke Sayre was third in the women's 800 meters at 2:21.31, while for the men
Liam Jones was sixth (1:57.52) and
Will Berger was ninth (1:58.64). In the 400-meter hurdles,
Marga Van Der Linde was second (1:04.14) and
Jakayla Campbell was fifth (1:11.56). The Wofford men took three of the top four spots in the 400-meter hurdles, led by Archie Woodward in second (58.18) and followed by
Sumter Cooper (58.89) and
Ahmad Miles (59.12).
The women's 200 meters was won by
Madeline McNinch in 24.07, with
Jasmine Jefferson (24.20) second and
Ella Tennant (24.69) in fourth place.
Cameron Dalton was third in the men's 200 at 21.30. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was second in 11:55.18. For the final track events of the day, the women's 4x400 relay was second in 4:04.86 and the men were also second in 3:25.57.
The field events began with the hammer on Friday evening.
Ellie Sawicki was fifth at 43.63 meters and
Dani Emmen was eighth at 38.64 meters.
Taylor Stingel began Saturday by taking first place in the javelin with a throw of 40.72 meters, while
Olivia Bagg was fifth at 35.02 meters. In the men's long jump,
Nevius Fisher was third at 7.04 meters,
Christopher Sheppard was seventh (6.28m) and
Sebastian LaTorre was ninth (6.04m). For the women in the long jump,
Madeline McNinch was second at 5.94 meters and
Olivia Bagg was eighth at 5.54 meters. The men's high jump saw
Jake Ross clear 1.90 meters for fourth place, while
Ava Cooper was fifth for the women at 1.55 meters.
In the pole vault,
Sebastian LaTorre took first place at 3.85 meters, with
Andrew Botros (3.70m) second and
Jacob Lawson (3.55m) fifth.
Pamela Ann Pope cleared 2.55 meters for fourth place in the women's pole vault. In the shot put,
Ellie Sawicki was third at 12.74 meters for the women and
Chase Edwards was tenth for the men at 12.85 meters. For the men in the triple jump, Patrick Green was fourth at 12.85 meters and
Christopher Sheppard was fifth as 12.79 meters.
Chase Edwards added a fifth place in the men's discus at 46.51 meters, while for the women
Ellie Sawicki was second at 42.65 meters to set a new school record and
Dani Emmen was ninth at 37.08 meters.
Teams competing included East Tennessee State, Gardner-Webb, Radford, Winthrop, Wofford and host UNC Asheville.
The Terriers will compete next weekend at the Catamount Classic on April 19 and 20 in Cullowhee, N.C.
