Rachael Rose Secures Academic All-American Honors

Rose becomes first Terrier in 22 years to garner the prestigious status

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced Tuesday the 2023-24 Academic All-America® women's basketball teams for NCAA Division I-II-III and NAIA. Wofford's Rachael Rose was named to the third team in Division I.

Rose, a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, is the second student-athlete in program history to earn Academic All-American recognition, joining Jenny Nett (2002, first team). She garners this status after being named to the CSC Academic All-District Team last month. Rose is one of 16 total players recognized between the three D-I academic all-American squads.

"While it might be hard to put all of Rachael's accomplishments and accolades in some sort of order of importance, this latest honor is easy to put right near the top," said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "Rachael attacks everything with hard work, extraordinary effort, incredible time management and strong priorities. She leads our team in so many different ways, and this is another reflection of the example she sets not only on the court but in the classroom. She injects motivation, belief, confidence and a lot of fun into her teammates and our program as a whole. To accomplish what Rachael did with her academics during a busy basketball season takes incredible discipline, and I know our entire campus community could not be prouder of Rachael being named an Academic All-American."

Rose led the Southern Conference in scoring and assists, posting 22.3 points per game with 5.4 assists per game. Her 670 total points and 163 total assists were both new single-season program records, as was her league-best 87.0 percent free throw shooting clip. Rose's scoring average ranked seventh in the country. She was second in the league with 8.3 rebounds per game and added in a league-leading 2.13 steals per contest. Rose was the only player in the nation to average at least 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.

The junior tallied eight double-doubles during the season, including the program's first-ever triple-double. She tallied 23 games with at least 20 points scored, three of which were 30-point outings. This includes a new career-high 38 points in SoCon semifinals against UNCG, a mark that was the third highest in a game in program history and two points shy of the record. She netted double-digits in every game this season with her streak still active at 49 games, a program record.

Rose reached multiple milestones during the season, including 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. She is the 19th Terrier all-time to reach the coveted 1,000 points threshold.

Alongside her statistical success, Rose took home plenty of hardware during the campaign. She repeated as SoCon Player of the Year, the first player in program history to win the honor twice, let alone back-to-back. Rose added in First-Team All-SoCon recognition, and she was named SoCon Player of the Week a record seven times. She claimed the SoCon Player of the Month honor in three of the four months it was awarded. The guard was one of five finalists for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, the only player in program history to make the final five.

This is not her only time earning recognition for her academics this season, as she was previously named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week three times during the season. She matched the program record for student-athlete of the week honors in a season, tying the three honors of Alexis Tomlin in the 2021-22 campaign. A psychology major, Rose touts a 3.86 GPA.
