CULLOWHEE, N.C. – On Friday and Saturday, the Wofford College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University. The Terriers had numerous personal bests and top ten finishes in the meet. There were six first finishes, including a pair by
Madeline McNinch.
On Friday in the field events,
Sebastian LaTorre finished first in the pole vault at 4.00 meters and he was third in the javelin at 50.31 meters.
Madeline McNinch was second in the long jump at 5.63 meters and for the men
Nevius Fisher was second at 7.00 meters. In the women's hammer,
Dani Emmen was fifth with a throw of 43.05 meters and
Ellie Sawicki was tenth at 39.27 meters.
Taylor Stingel took fourth place in the women's javelin at 34.24 meters.
The Friday track events saw
Madeline McNinch win the 200 meters in 24.44. The Terriers also took first place in the men's 200 meters as
Cameron Dalton set a new school record with a time of 20.97.
Zion Bennett added a tenth place in the 200 meters at 22.14. In the 1,500 meters,
Becca Hinds (4:58.86) and
Liam Jones (4:06.22) both set personal bests.
Saturday's track events began with four Terriers in the finals of the women's 100-meter hurdles. JaKayla Campbell was third (14.50),
Olivia Bagg took fourth (14.66), Isabelle Duchemin was sixth (14.97) and
Marga Van Der Linde was seventh (15.09). For the men in the 110-meter hurdle finals,
Archie Woodard was fourth (15.71) and
Jackson Casey was sixth (17.66). In the men's 400 meters,
Thomas Stamper was third (50.28) and
Zion Bennett was fourth (50.58).
Madeline McNinch earned her second win of the meet with a 11.95 in the finals of the 100 meters.
Ella Tennant was sixth (12.24) in the event.
Nevius Fisher was third in the men's 100-meter finals at 10.78. In the 800 meters,
Dannielle King was sixth (2:17.24) for the women.
Marga Van Der Linde took first place in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.48, while JaKayla Campbell was seventh at 1:08.36. For the men in the 400-meter hurdles,
Sumter Cooper was eighth (57.64) and
Ahmad Miles was ninth (57.50). In the 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was first in 11:50.50 and
Morgan Roberts was fourth at 12:17.54. The men's 4x400 relay was third with a season-best time of 3:21.89.
In the field events on Saturday,
Olivia Bagg was sixth (1.61 meters) and
Ava Cooper was eighth (1.56 meters) in the women's high jump.
Ellie Sawicki took fourth place in the discus with a throw of 38.66 meters and she was second in the shot put at 12.65 meters.
Chase Edwards was ninth in the men's shot put at 14.02 meters and fifth in the discus at 47.23 meters.
Christopher Sheppard had an eighth-place finish in the triple jump at 12.49 meters.
There were fifteen teams competing including East Tennessee State, Gardner-Webb, Tennessee Tech, UNC Asheville, Western Carolina and Wofford.
The Terriers take a week off before competing at the 2024 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Samford on May 6 and 7.
