BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Wofford College track and field program had another strong performance at the 2024 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium in Birmingham. The Wofford women were second overall and the men were fifth, while seven titles were claimed.
Southern Conference titles were won by
Olivia Bagg in the heptathlon, the women's 4x100 relay team, the women's 4x400 relay team,
Jasmine Jefferson in the 200 meters and 400 meters, and
Cameron Dalton in the 100 meters and 200 meters. The seven total titles are the most in school history, topping the six titles in 2019.
The women's team scored 130 points to take second place for the fourth time in the last five meets. The men's squad was fifth overall with 90 points, the second-highest total in school history (91 in 2019).
Jasmine Jefferson won a total of four titles in the meet, as she was part of the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, along with championships in the 200 and 400 meters. She is the first Terrier to be a part of four titles in a single championship.
Cameron Dalton is only the second men's athlete to win a pair of titles in a single SoCon championship, joining Adrien Borders in 2003.
Overall, eighteen All-Southern Conference honors were achieved which is tied for the most in school history with the same number in 2019. A total of seven All-Freshman honors were awarded to Terriers. Wofford also set two school records and two SoCon meet records.

Madeline McNinch graduates with over 20 All-SoCon honors which is incredible, while
Jasmine Jefferson was a major force and was not going to be denied victory. For the men,
Cameron Dalton responded to fill a role and as a whole the guys raced their hearts out. I am proud of the senior guys on the team that stepped up."
The day began with the completion of the final three events of the heptathlon.
Olivia Bagg claimed the title with 4,776 points. She was first in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump, and javelin. She is the fourth different Terrier to win the event in the last five SoCon Championships (Amber Lust in 2019, Megan Dunn in 2021 and
Netanya Linares in 2023).
Presley Worf was seventh overall with 3,977 points, which included a third place in the 800 meters. After the final five events of the decathlon,
Sebastian LaTorre was eighth overall with 5,209 points, which included a first place in the javelin.
In the field events,
Chase Edwards was fifth in the shot put at 14.40 meters and he added a second place finish in the discus at 47.41.
Ellie Sawicki was third in the discus at 38.87 meters, with
Dani Emmen eighth at 34.89 meters. Sawicki added a second place in the shot put with a throw of 12.84 meters. In the men's triple jump, Patrick Green was third overall at 14.26 meters, while
Christopher Sheppard added a sixth place at 13.41 meters.
Taylor Stingel was seventh in the javelin at 35.84 meters. In the women's triple jump, Isabelle Duchemin was sixth at 10.28 meters.
To open the track events on Tuesday, the men's 4x100 relay team of
Christopher Sheppard,
Cameron Dalton,
Zion Bennett and
Shane Olander was third in 41.51. The women's 4x100 team of
Ella Tennant,
Jasmine Jefferson,
Olivia Bagg and
Madeline McNinch claimed the title with a time of 46.00. It marked the fourth straight season the Terriers have won the event.
In the 110-meter hurdles for the men,
Grant Witherspoon was fourth (14.84) and
Archie Woodard was sixth (15.57) to score for the Terriers. JaKayla Campbell was third in the 100-meter hurdles for the women in 14.51, while
Marga Van Der Linde was eighth at 15.00. During the men's 400 meters,
Zion Bennett was fourth (48.14) and
Thomas Stamper was sixth (49.14).
In the women's 400 meters,
Jasmine Jefferson added to her hardware with a first-place finish in 53.27 – three seconds faster than the second-place finisher and a Southern Conference meet record that was previously 53.55 set in 1995. She also won the 400 meters in the 2024 SoCon Indoor Championship with a SoCon record time.
Cameron Dalton took first place in the men's 100 meters in a time of 10.56 that set a new school record. In the women's 100 meters,
Madeline McNinch was third in 11.80 and
Ella Tennant was fourth in 11.95. In the 800 meters,
Dannielle King was fourth at 2:16.21. The Wofford men had four in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles, with
Grant Witherspoon second (54.96),
Archie Woodard fourth (57.03),
Sumter Cooper sixth (58.81) and
Ahmad Miles seventh at 58.83. For the women in the 400-meter hurdles,
Marga Van Der Linde was third at 1:03.46.
During the men's 200 meters,
Cameron Dalton earned his second title of the meet with a time of 20.64 which was a school record and it was a SoCon meet record, besting the previous mark of 20.80 set in 1977. In the women's 200 meters,
Jasmine Jefferson once again was first across the finish line in a time of 24.01, with
Madeline McNinch second in 24.53 and
Ella Tennant fourth at 24.92.
In the 4x400 relay to close out the meet, the Wofford men's team of
Zion Bennett,
Thomas Stamper,
Conor Murphy and
Cameron Dalton was fourth at 3:16.26. The women's team of
Marga Van Der Linde,
Jasmine Jefferson,
Brooke Sayre and
Dannielle King won by four seconds to win the event in a time of 3:47.33 for the first time in school history.
Samford won the men's championship fourth-straight season with 217 points and the women's championship with 212.5 points for the fifth-straight season.
