SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College head volleyball coach
Lynze Roos has announced the 2024 fall slate of action for the defending 2023 Southern Conference champion Terriers. Wofford's schedule features four non-conference tournaments, two of which the Terriers are hosting inside the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. In all, Wofford is set for 28 matches with 14 home contests.
The Terriers are fresh off their best season in program history in which Wofford claimed the 2023 Southern Conference Tournament title on its own floor and made the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance with a hard-fought match at No. 2 Kentucky. Both the conference tournament championship and the NCAA Tournament appearance were firsts for any women's team sport at Wofford. The squad posted its highest win total at the Division I level with a 23-8 record, and the 11-5 SoCon mark was the program's best ever.
The quest to repeat will feature some challenging tests with iron sharpening iron as the Terriers are set to battle a pair of fellow NCAA Tournament teams in Auburn and Tennessee. Another power conference foe in Clemson is on the schedule, too.
The 2024 season opens on the road in Auburn's tournament, which runs from August 30-31. The Terriers begin play with a pair of matches on Friday, August 30, against Georgia Southern and North Alabama. The following day, Wofford faces the host Tigers.
Wofford begins its home slate the following weekend by hosting Queens, Campbell and Presbyterian in the Wofford Invitational. The two-day event begins with the Terriers facing the Royals and Fighting Camels on Friday, September 6, before battling the Blue Hose the following day.
Wofford hits the road again for a three-day trip to the mountains for App State's Black and Gold Invitational. The Terriers will face Winthrop (September 12), Clemson (September 13) and App State (September 14).
Returning home, the Terriers host three more matches to conclude non-conference action. First, Wofford welcomes Tennessee to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Monday, September 16, for a battle between two NCAA Tournament squads. That weekend, Wofford hosts the Terrier Invite with matches against SC State (September 19) and Valpo (September 21).
Wofford opens Southern Conference play the following weekend at home by welcoming Chattanooga (September 26) and Samford (September 27) to Spartanburg.
Four-straight road matches follow, beginning with a trip to UNCG on October 4. An in-state clash against The Citadel takes place in Charleston the next day before the Terriers face road tests at ETSU (October 11) and Western Carolina (October 12) the next weekend.
A rivalry match-up against Furman opens the next weekend's slate on October 18 at home with a bout against Mercer (October 19) following. The Terriers hit the road again to start the back half of conference play with trips to Chattanooga (October 24) and Samford (October 25).
Four-straight home matches ensue, beginning with clashes against The Citadel (October 31) and UNCG (November 1). The next weekend will see Western Carolina (November 8) and ETSU (November 9) come to town to end the home slate of action.
The regular season concludes with a pair of road tilts against Mercer (November 15) and Furman (November 16).
The Southern Conference Tournament runs from November 21-24, in which the defending champion Terriers will look to reclaim the crown. The tournament will be held in Asheville, North Carolina, this season for the first time as the event moves away from the traditional on-campus host sites.
Wofford returns 12 players from last season's NCAA Tournament squad, including a trio of seniors in
Sarah MacLean,
Mary Emily Morgan and
Mad Wilson. The Terriers welcome a freshman class of five newcomers.
