Men’s Golf Concludes Play in JT Poston Invitational

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – The Wofford men's golf team opened its season in the JT Poston Invitational hosted by Western Carolina, posting a team score of 896 to tie for 10th place. At the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club, a par-70, 6,720-yard course over three days from Sunday to Tuesday, Ben Jordan led the Terriers with his 214 score to place in a tie for 24th.
 
The Terriers recorded a score of 896 with rounds of 292-286-291. Wofford tied for 10th place in the 15-team field with Mercer at 29-over par. Lipscomb claimed the event crown with an 11-under par 829, besting second-place Kennesaw State by eight strokes. Wofford posted the fifth-most pars in the event with 163, but the Terriers were only able to tally 34 total birdies.
 
Ben Jordan paced the squad in a tie for 24th, narrowly missing out on a top 20 by three strokes. Jordan recorded a 4-over 214. He posted an opening round of 72 before carding a 69 in round two, the lone round under par for a Terrier in the event. He concluded the event with a 73. His nine birdies tied for seventh most by a player in the event and tied for the team lead.
 
Three Terriers tied for 42nd with 9-over scores. Charles Warren, Will Brown and Andrew Aquino all recorded a score of 219. Warren posted an opening round of 77 before bouncing back with subsequent rounds of 72 and 70. His nine birdies tied Jordan for the team lead. Brown, a freshman, recorded rounds of 74-73-72 in his debut. With 35 pars, Brown led the team and recorded the fifth most by a golfer in the event. Aquino, another freshman debuting, posted rounds of 71-72-76.
 
Rounding out the Terrier lineup was Glover Amick, tying for 82nd with a 230 score (75-76-78). Major Lenning competed as an individual in the event, tying for 77th with a 16-over 226. Lenning opened with a 72 before following with rounds of 75 and 79. The sophomore recorded an eagle in the tournament, the only Terrier to do so.
 
The Terriers will be back in action this weekend with a trip to Colorado for the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The three-day event hosted by Air Force runs from Saturday, September 21, to Monday, September 23.
