Women’s Golf Wraps up Play in Rain-Shortened Elon Invitational

Terriers tie for sixth after round three was called short due to inclement weather

BURLINGTON, N.C. – After playing two rounds on Monday, September 16, at the Alamance Country Club, a par-71, 6,065-yard course, the Wofford women's golf team stood in sixth place in the Elon Invitational. After playing through 17 holes in round three on Tuesday, the event was called short due to inclement weather, finalizing the Terrier score where it stood entering the day at 608.

Wofford opened the first day with a 297 in round one and wrapped up play with a 311 in round two. Round three began in rainy conditions, and ultimately the round was unable to be completed after lightning entered the area with standing water on the greens. With the final round washed away, the Terriers finished with a two-round score of 608, tying with Winthrop for sixth place in the 14-team field. Charleston Southern earned the team win with a 591 score, just one stroke ahead of second-place North Carolina A&T.

A trio of Terriers tied to lead the way for the team, as Lilli Horn, Maggie Jackson and Bella Kent all tallied scores of 153. Horn opened with a 74 in the first round before finishing round two with a 79. Jackson opened with a 76 before concluding the day with a 77. Kent opened with a strong 1-over 72, but a slip in round two with a score of 81 dropped her into the tie for 28th with her teammates.

Despite missing out on the team title, North Carolina A&T saw its own Ekaterina Prokhorova earn low medalist honors in the 82-player field with a 138 after carding rounds of 67 and 71. She was two strokes ahead of second-place Katie Stephens of Charleston Southern.

Regina Parra and Sofia Pedrero round out the Terrier lineup in a tie for 39th with a score of 155. Parra posted rounds of 75 and 80 while Pedrero carded the reverse of 80 and 75.

Wofford will return to action near the end of the month in the Pirate Collegiate Classic hosted by East Carolina. The three-round event takes place in Greenville, North Carolina, and runs from September 29 to October 1.
