USAF Academy, Colo. – The Wofford men's golf team wrapped up play Monday in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational hosted by Air Force, carding 902 as a team to tie for 18
th.
Charles Warren led the way for Wofford in 43
rd with his 222 on the Eisenhower Golf Course.
The Terriers posted a total score of 902, 38-over par. Wofford tied for 18
th with CSU Northridge in the 22-team field. After posting a 301 in each of the first two rounds, the Terriers tallied an even 300 in the final round. Colorado State won the event by nine strokes with a 14-under 850, besting second-place Utah State (859).
Leading the way for Wofford was
Charles Warren in a tie for 43
rd with his score of 222, 6-over par. After opening with a 75 in round one, Warren steadily improved over the course of the tournament with a 74 in round two and 73 in round three.
The Rams swept the event as Matthew Wilkinson of Colorado State claimed low medalist honors by three strokes in the 110-player field. He posted a 10-under score of 206.
Ben Jordan tied for 71
st with his score pf 227 after rounds of 74-76-77.
Max Cranford made his season debut a stroke behind with a 228, tying for 78
th. He carded rounds of 75-76-77.
Miller Carr tied for 89
th in his Wofford debut with a 230 score. After rounds of 77 and 79 to open, he finished strong with a 74 in round three.
Will Brown rounds out the Terrier lineup in a tie for 93
rd with his 232. Despite an 81 to open, Brown recovered with subsequent rounds of 75 and 76.
The event featured a separate individual competition on the Silver Course, a par-72. Two Terriers competed in the individual portion –
Andrew Aquino and
Davis Neal. Aquino led the way for Wofford in the event with a 3-over 219, tying for 15
th to notch his first-career top 20. The freshman posted a 76 to open before recovering nicely with a 69 in round two, his new career low for a round. A final round 74 secured his spot in the top 20.
Davis Seybert of Wyoming topped the leaderboard in this portion of the event with a 207, two strokes ahead of second place.
Davis Neal tied for 24
th at 7-over after carding 223. He opened with a 79 before dropping his scores to 74 and 70 in the following rounds.
The Terriers return to the Palmetto State for their next event in early October. The Carolina Cup, hosted by crosstown foe USC Upstate, will run from October 6-8 at the Carolina Country Club. It will be the penultimate tournament of Wofford's four-event fall slate.
