September 3, 2024
It has been an incredible first five months on the job as the Robert D. Atkins '65 Director of Athletics at Wofford. I have had numerous meetings with student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty members, and donors during this time and could not be more excited about the future of Wofford Athletics.
This inaugural issue of "From the Athletics Director's Desk" is part of my commitment to direct communication with our constituents. We'll use this monthly newsletter, along with a quarterly video podcast, to share updates. Of course, communication is a two-way street, and I welcome your feedback at
ad@wofford.edu.
FALL SPORTS ARE UNDERWAY
The fall season has begun! The women's soccer team was the first to get a win with a 1-0 victory over Stetson. The men's soccer team is 1-0-1 with a win over Queens and a tie against Georgia Southern. In volleyball, the Terriers picked up a win over North Alabama at the War Eagle Invitational and will host two home tournaments in the upcoming weeks. Football carried over the momentum from last season with an exciting 21-20 road win at Gardner-Webb. The men's and women's cross country teams will run in the Eye Opener meet at Milliken Park on Friday, Sept. 6. Both tennis teams and both golf teams are taking part in fall tournaments as well.
ALL-SPORTS WELCOME BACK BBQ
On Sunday, September 1, we gathered student-athletes, coaches, and staff from all 20 sports for a welcome back BBQ. This was a great event to kick off the academic year, and we look forward to the teams supporting each other throughout the year.
MEN'S BASKETBALL GOES ABROAD
The men's basketball team spent 10 days in August traveling and learning in Egypt and Greece. Despite an unexpected layover in London, the team had an incredible experience. Read more about their experience
here.
CALLING ALL FOOTBALL ALUMNI
As the 2024 season approaches, we're excited to connect with our football alumni. We invite you and your families to join me for a special gathering on the Harley Room patio before each home game, excluding Homecoming. This will be a great opportunity for you to reunite with teammates, interact with current student-athletes and staff, and support the 2024 Terrier football team. During halftime of our home opener on Sept. 14, we will recognize all former players as part of our celebration of Letterman's Day. Email Elizabeth Rabb at rabbew@wofford.edu by 5 p.m., the Thursday of game week, with the number of people planning to attend. A reminder email will be sent before each home game.
#WearWoffordFriday
Every Friday, we encourage Wofford fans to wear old gold and black to support the Terriers. Be sure to upload your photos to social media and tag us with #WearWoffordFriday. We'll be looking forward to seeing your Terrier swag, and we will repost a few each week! The Wofford College Bookstore, now located in The Hub, across from campus on North Church Street, has lots of new gear this fall. A full selection can also be found online at

TICKET OFFICE NOTES
Season and single-game tickets are on sale now for Wofford football and volleyball games. Season ticket renewals have gone out for men's and women's basketball games as well. Season tickets for football and men's basketball have a Scholarship Seating Requirement this year, which will provide additional funds for Terrier Club scholarships. We also are continuing our move towards digital ticketing, along with a partnership with PEAK Sports MGMT to handle outbound ticket sales. Visit
www.woffordterriers.com/tickets to purchase tickets and secure your seats!
VERANDAH LOT INFORMATION
For our donors in the Verandah Lot, please visit your personalized portal by 5 p.m. on Thursdays of game week to make any single-game ticket requests. Once ordered, tickets will be delivered by email or text for you to distribute. Beginning this season, the lifetime-giving requirement to reserve a Verandah Lot space has increased to $100,000, however current spotholders are grandfathered in. Please contact a member of the Terrier Club staff at 864-597-4090 for information on this change.
FOOTBALL HOME OPENER
The football home opener against William & Mary is almost here! One of the things you will be able to see and hear will be the new distributed sound system, along with the state-of-the-art video board. Both systems replace hardware that was installed in 2010 and were nearing the end of their lifespan. We're excited about how the new video board and sound system will enhance the fan experience.
WELCOME MEN'S GOLF HEAD COACH TODD ECKSTEIN
While we welcomed student-athletes back to campus, we also welcomed a new men's golf coach. Todd Eckstein joins the Terriers to lead the team after serving as the head coach of High Point University men's golf team for the past two seasons. Prior to his time at High Point, Eckstein spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech with a focus on recruiting. From 2016-19, he was an assistant coach for the Furman men's program. Eckstein served as an assistant in the spring of 2016 with Mercer before his arrival in Greenville. In the fall of 2015, he was a volunteer assistant with his alma mater, Davidson College. Before joining the coaching ranks, Eckstein was an all-conference golfer at Davidson. A four-year letterwinner with the Wildcats, he was a two-time Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar.
PODCAST DROPPING SOON
Next week, be sure to tune in for the first podcast version of "From the Athletics Director's Desk" as I'll sit down with student-athletes from the football and volleyball teams. This podcast will be produced quarterly as a way for our fans to get to know our student-athletes. The podcast will be accessible on YouTube, our website, and on iTunes and Spotify.
Thanks for all of your support. Go Terriers!
