HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Wofford women's golf team hosted the Low Country Intercollegiate over three days at the Moss Creek Golf Club with the Terriers earning a third-place finish with a 940 score.
Lilli Horn paced the squad with her 223 mark, finishing as the runner-up of the event.
The Terriers were 76-over par with their score of 940. Wofford opened with a 309 and finished with rounds of 315 and 316 to drop one spot on the final day into third place. This marks Wofford's third top-three finish of the campaign after claiming a third-place result and a team win back in the fall. Wofford's par-3 average of 3.25 was second best in the field, and the 5.48 par-5 average was third best. The Terriers owned the most birdies in the event with 28, five more than the next closest teams.
High Point won the 13-team event with a 913 score, besting second-place Samford by 22 strokes.
Lilli Horn was the top Terrier in the event, finishing as the runner-up with a 7-over 223 in the 73-player field. Horn was only four strokes off the individual winner, High Point's Anna Howerton. Horn opened with rounds of 76 and 75, but a 72 on day three lifted the junior up two spots on the leaderboard into second place to match her career-best finish. This is Horn's second top five of her career, which was also a runner-up finish in last season's Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. The Bournemouth, United Kingdom, native had the best par-3 average in the event at 2.83, and her 4.20 par-4 clip was tied for third best. Her 11 birdies were the most in the event, one ahead of the next-closest player.
Maggie Jackson joined Horn in the top 20 by placing 15
th. This is her 11
th career top 20 finish. Jackson opened strong with rounds of 76 and 78, but an 81 on day three dropped her eight spots to 15
th. Jackson's 33 pars were tied for fourth most in the tournament, only five off the leader.
Bella Kent narrowly missed joining her in the top 20, placing 22
nd. Kent posted rounds of 80 and 83 to open before finishing strong with a 78 to secure a 241 and skyrocket 10 spots on the leaderboard.
Anna Ahonen was 48
th with a score of 249, carding rounds of 85-79-85.
Taylor Burch rounds out the Wofford lineup tied for 49
th with a 250 score. She carded rounds of 77-84-89. A pair of Terriers competed as individuals with
Delaney Wade finishing 56
th. She posted rounds of 82-92-80 to score 254.
Regina Parra was 67
th after scoring 267 with rounds of 87-89-91.
The Terriers will return to action next week with the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by App State. The two-day event takes place on March 31 and April 1 in Morganton, North Carolina.
