MORGANTON, N.C. – The Wofford Terriers swept the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State, with both the team and individual titles. As a unit, the Wofford women's golf team totaled a 925 over the three-round, two-day event at the Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club, taking the team title. The Terriers were powered by a duo in the top 10, notably
Bella Kent's 3-over, 219 performance to claim low medalist honors by five strokes.
"It was a total team effort," said head coach
Angie Ridgeway. "We leaked some oil on the back nine but got it together to finish well and get the win. Bella played like a champion all tournament. She deserves the win!"
The Terriers were 61-over par at the par-72 course, recording rounds of 301 and 311 on the first day to sit in second place. With a 313 on the final day, Wofford jumped up into first to secure a second victory on the season (Fripp Island Intercollegiate). This is the third time in program history that Wofford has secured two wins in a campaign (match play wins excluded) and the first since the 2021-22 season. Wofford topped runner-up Tennessee Tech by four strokes in the 10-team field, which featured SoCon foes Western Carolina and The Citadel.
Wofford at least tied for the best scoring average across the board with 3.50 on par-3s, 4.40 on par-4s, and 5.08 on par-5s. With 147 pars, the Terriers owned the most in the field by seven, and with 27 birdies Wofford was second.
Bella Kent secured her first-career win by totaling a 3-over 219 in the 58-player field. She sat in first place after day one with rounds of 73 and 74, and with an even-par 72 in the final round, the sophomore held firm to stave off several pushes and claim the win. Gardner-Webb's Neza Siftar finished in second place five strokes behind. Kent is the first Terrier to earn low medalist honors since Becca Earl won the Lady Bison Classic in February of 2022. Wofford secured both team and individual wins for the first time since sweeping the Boscobel Intercollegiate in October 2010 with current assistant coach
Alex Rankin earning the individual title in that tournament.
Kent posted the best par-3 average (3.08) and best par-5 clip (4.50) in the tournament. Her 11 birdies were most in the field by two.
Maggie Jackson marked a duo in the top 10 by placing sixth, her fifth-career top-10 placement. She entered the final round after carding 74 and 78, and with a 76 she moved up two spots on the leaderboard into sixth.
Lilli Horn finished tied for 13
th with a 236. She opened with a 74, and despite closing with rounds of 80 and 82, she claimed a top-20 result. Horn's 32 pars tied for the third most in the event. Competing as an individual,
Taylor Burch was 12
th with her 233 score, marking a quartet of Terriers in the top 20. This is her fourth top 20. Burch posted rounds of 76-79-78.
Delaney Wade tied for 28
th with a score of 244 with rounds of 80-79-85.
Regina Parra rounds out the Terrier lineup in a tie for 36
th after posting rounds of 80-85-83.
Anna Ahonen competed as an individual like Burch, placing in a tie for 28
th with Wade. She secured her 244 with rounds of 77-83-84. The 244 total and 28
th-place finish are both career bests with Wofford, and her first-round 77 matches her low round as a Terrier.
Wofford has one final event before the Southern Conference Championship, competing in the Tennessee Spring Challenge on April 7. The one-day event takes place in Knoxville before the Terriers return to the Palmetto State for the SoCon Championship a week later in West Columbia.
