Abby Greenwood Tabbed SoCon Pitcher of the Week

Sophomore becomes third Terrier hurler honored this season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced today its selections for softball player of the pitcher of the week for competition from April 7-13 with Wofford right-hander Abby Greenwood earning pitcher of the week honors. The selections are made by the league office.

This is the first weekly honor for Greenwood in her career as she becomes the third different Terrier hurler to receive SoCon Pitcher of the Week recognition this season. Wofford is the only program in the conference to receive the award three times this season with all three selections being a different player. Margaret Axelson (February 10) and Natalya Salo (February 24) are the other two Terrier pitchers to be honored during the campaign.

"Abby works so hard and does such a great job for us on a consistent basis," said head coach Chelsea Butler. "It's great to see her honored for the incredible week she had. This award is a strong ending to an awesome week!"

Greenwood tossed two complete games during the week, collecting a 2-0 record. Over her two starts, she notched a total of 17 strikeouts and allowed just a single run. Her week opened with nine punchouts en route to a complete-game win over Presbyterian at home in midweek action. After a lead-off single, Greenwood retired 19 batters in a row during the victory. She punched out nine batters in the contest. The King George, Virginia, native added eight more strikeouts in her weekend start at Western Carolina as she put together a complete game shutout against the Catamounts.

The sophomore right-hander is currently fifth in the SoCon in ERA at 2.23. As the Terrier leader in strikeouts with 91, Greenwood ranks fourth in the league.

Wofford returns to action tomorrow night with a road tilt at Winthrop beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Terriers then return home to host Chattanooga in a three-game SoCon series. The set opens with a doubleheader on Friday, April 18, with game one starting at 1:00 p.m. at Hope Field. The series wraps up Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
