SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford's
Sherika Christie and Chattanooga's Lesley Boyd claimed women's outdoor field and track athletes of the week honors, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday. Samford's Bradley Franklin and Kyle Kaufelds have been named the Southern Conference men's outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively.
Selections were made by panels of the league's track and field coaches and included all competition from April 9 –15.
Wofford's Christie competed at the Bryan Clay Multis hosted by Azusa Pacific University last Thursday and Friday. The sophomore from St. Catherine, Jamaica, set a school record in the heptathlon with 5,474 points, over 400 points higher than the previous record set by Megan Dunn in 2021 (5,013). In the combined two flights of the heptathlon, she was first overall, outscoring opponents from Montana, Boise State, Eastern Washington, Air Force, Colorado, Nevada, and Cal State Fullerton. Christie had personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles (14.07), shot put (12.43m), and 200 meters (24.72), along with a school record of 6.15 meters in the long jump.
This is the third SoCon weekly award of the year and the fourth of her career after earning the honor on Jan. 24, 2024, Jan. 29, 2025, and Feb. 12, 2025.
The Terriers will compete next at the Catamount Classic on April 25 and 26. The Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held in Birmingham on May 12 and 13.
