GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Wofford men's golf team wrapped up its stint in the Southern Conference Championship Tuesday afternoon by placing in seventh, carding a team score of 865 at 1-over par at the Oconee Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee. At the par-72 course,
Max Cranford paced the Terriers with his best-ever outing, tying for seventh with a career-low 210 at 6-under par.
Wofford opened the three-day event with a 297 on Sunday in round one, but the Terriers finished stronger on each of the following two days with rounds of 283 and 285. With a final score of 865 at 1-over par, Wofford slotted into seventh place. With a par-3 average of 3.07, the Terriers were tied for the third-best average in the field.
ETSU won the eight-team tournament with a 28-under 836. The Buccaneers used a 14-under final round to best runner-up UNCG by 12 strokes.
In his final outing as a Terrier,
Max Cranford posted the best effort of his career with a 6-under 210, both of which are career-low marks. The program's lone graduating player tied for seventh in the field of 37 full scores, matching his career-best placement. Cranford was under par in all three rounds, tallying a 70 to open before posting a 69 in round two. With a 71 to close out the event, Cranford secured his seventh-place result for a second-career top 10, both of which have come this season. Cranford scored an eagle during the event, one of 12 golfers to do so.
UNCG's Colin Dutton claimed the individual title at 10-under par with a 206, besting runner-up Yannick Malik of ETSU by a single stroke.
Charles Warren was just outside of the top 20 in 24
th, posting a 2-over 218. He carded rounds of 73-71-74.
Ben Jordan was the only other Terrier to complete all three rounds and tally a full counting score, lodging a 224 in 34
th. Despite an 80 in round one, Jordan bounced back with rounds of 74 and 70 to advance four places on the leaderboard on day three.
Miller Carr subbed in after round one and played the final two with rounds of 69 and 73. The 69 marked just his third round in the 60s as a Terrier.
Will Brown carded a 78 in round one before being subbed out for round two. He re-entered the lineup for round three with a 71.
Will Jones played the opening two rounds before being subbed out for the final round, carding a 76 and 82. With a par-3 average of 2.75, Jones tied for the second best in the field.
Wofford concludes its first season under the direction of head coach
Todd Eckstein, who guided the squad to a trio of top-five results, including a victory in the Carolina Cup in October. That event also saw
Ben Jordan claim his first-career victory. The Terriers will return to the course in the fall of 2025 looking to build on a successful campaign.
