KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Wofford women's golf team wrapped play Monday evening in the Tennessee Spring Challenge, hosted by the University of Tennessee at the par-72 Fox Den Country Club. The Terriers placed ninth in the 36-hole event with a 620 score.
The Terriers opened with a 316 before closing the day with a round of 304, moving up one spot on the leaderboard to jump Appalachian State for ninth. At 44-over par, Wofford bested the Mountaineers by a stroke. Western Kentucky won the event with a 1-over 577, 11 strokes better than second-place No. 18 Vanderbilt, one of two ranked squads in the 10-team field alongside the host Volunteers.
Bella Kent led the way for Wofford with an 8-over 152. She posted rounds of 75 and 77 to tie for 23
rd and just missed a top 20 by one stroke. The Hilltoppers took the individual title as well with Kaylee Dwyer winning by one stroke with her 4-under 140 score in the 60-player field.
Lilli Horn placed in a tie for 38
th with a score of 155 after carding rounds of 78 and 77.
Maggie Jackson was a stroke behind with 156, tying for 40
th. After an opening 83, Jackson used a bounce-back 73 to move up 12 spots on the leaderboard.
Anna Ahonen was tied for 43
rd with a score of 159, notching rounds of 82 and 77.
Taylor Burch rounds out the Terrier lineup in a tie for 55
th, posting a 164 after carding rounds of 81 and 83.
This was Wofford's last test before the Southern Conference Championship next week. The culmination of the season is set to start on Monday, April 14, and the three-day event concludes on Wednesday, April 16. The tournament is hosted in a new location this year at the Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, South Carolina.
