Baseball Ends Regular Season Hosting VMI

Wofford returns home to host VMI for three games to finish off the 2025 regular season. The Terriers are 29-24 (6-12 SoCon) after dropping two-of-three at ETSU over the weekend. The Keydets were idle last weekend and enter the three-game set at 26-23 (5-13 SoCon). VMI was last in action the opening weekend of May, suffering a sweep to ETSU at home. The programs have played 46 games all-time dating back to 1997 with the Terriers holding a 27-19 lead in the series. Last season, VMI claimed the series in Lexington by winning two-of-three.

Senior Day
The final game of the regular season on Friday, May 16, serves as senior day for Wofford, who will honor its eight senior Terriers prior to the contest. The 2025 senior class features Grant Comstock, Adam Haber, Tyler Hare, Braden Hofmeyer, Morgan Lunceford, Dylan Rhadans, Michael Sills, and David Wiley. It's a historic senior class for the Terriers as they were all a part of last season's incredible run to the 2024 SoCon Tournament title and subsequent trip to the NCAA Tournament. Many of them played a direct role in Wofford winning its first-ever NCAA Tournament game over LIU. Though the class is comprised of several transfers who did not play all four seasons at Wofford, as a four-year class it boasts 159 total victories, including three-straight 40-win seasons from 2022 to 2024.

Setting the Table
Getting on base is imperative for the small ball offense that Wofford runs, and every player in the lineup buys in to help set the table. Four players to own at least 20 lead-off opportunities this season are getting on base successfully at least 50 percent of the time in those situations. Tyler Hare posts a mark of 50.0 percent (16-of-32). Adam Haber is successful 57.1 percent of the time (20-of-35) with James Layman at 52.3 percent (23-of-44). Tanner Hardin is at 51.7 percent (15-of-29). Multiple Terriers are hitting over .300 with the bases empty to help set the table with Layman's .373 mark (28-for-75) among the best on the squad with a minimum of 30 at-bats. Adam Haber adds an average of .321 (18-for-56). Niko Brini hits .313 (21-for-67) with the bases empty. Hardin is boasting an average of .385 (20-for-52) with no one on base. Hunter Herndon touts a mark of .341 (14-for-41).

We Got Ice
Among the numerous ways Wofford players reach base is the hit-by-pitch, of which the Terriers wore plenty in 2022. With 91 hit batsmen, Wofford was second in the SoCon and 33rd in the country. Wofford hitters were pegged 96 times in 2023, first in the conference and 28th nationally. Last season, the Terriers were hit 108 times, a new program record. It was the most in the league and 26th in the country. Lucas Manning wore the most of any Terrier, being plunked 15 times, fifth most in a season in program history. Wofford is still being plunked at a high rate in 2025, already getting hit 103 times, 19th most in the nation and most in the conference. David Wiley and James Layman lead the team with 15 plunks each. They are tied for fifth in the conference. In all, 18 Terriers have been hit at least once with nine of them getting hit at least five times. Four Terriers have been hit at least 10 times, with Andrew Mannelly (11) and Ryan Wynn (10) joining Layman and Wiley. Wofford has broken its program record for hit-by-pitch in three consecutive seasons. The 91 in 2022 bested the prior clip of 85 from 2018. The bar was raised in 2023 with 96 before being topped again with last season's 108. The Terriers are on track to potentially break the record this season with 103 through 53 games played, which in a 56-game regular season puts the Terriers on pace for 108 plunks, which would tie the record. Wofford is guaranteed at least one game in the SoCon Tournament, which could help lift the Terriers to the record.

30 Rocks
Upon recording win No. 30 last season, the Terriers secured a 30-win season for the sixth-straight full season (COVID-shortened 2020 campaign excluded). J.J. Edwards, became the first skipper in program history to notch 30 or more victories in his first year at the helm. Wofford's streak of six years in a row with 30-plus wins is the longest active run by a SoCon school. Mercer had been in front with eight-straight 30-win campaigns since joining the league, but the Bears finished with 29 wins last season to fall just short of extending their streak. Currently boasting 29 victories in 2025, the Terriers need just one more to extend the streak to seven consecutive seasons of 30 or more wins.

On Deck
With the regular season in the books, Wofford heads to Greenville, South Carolina, for the Southern Conference Tournament. The tournament is once again hosted at Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive. The first round of action is Wednesday, May 21.
