Spartanburg, S.C.- The Wofford softball team (30-22, 11-8 SoCon) lost an elimination game against UNCG (39-17, 14-6) in the 2025 Southern Conference Tournament by a 3-1 margin on Thursday night at Hope Field. The Spartans denied a late rally by the Terriers to end the Wofford season in game eight of the tournament.  

Abby Greenwood got the circle and pitched the complete game with three runs allowed, two of which were earned, on five hits with five strikeouts. With the loss, Greenwood's record has moved to 9-6 on the year. 

Greenwood was dominant to start out the game, not allowing a hit until the bottom of the fourth inning. The Wofford bats were unable to support her, leaving four runners on base combined in the first four innings of action. The Spartans broke through with a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth to put UNCG up 2-0. They added to their lead in the bottom of the six with one run to put the Terriers in a 3-0 hole.  

Wofford responded like they have done all season in the seventh inning. After back-to-back singles by Abbi Campell and Kaytlin Greenwood, a Kate Platte walk loaded the bases for the heart of the Wofford lineup. Hope Ingle was able to drive in a run with a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1. However, that was all Wofford could muster as the Spartans closed the book on a record-breaking Wofford season.  

Wofford closes out the 2025 season with the most wins in program history with a 30-22 record.
