Roos Adds McElveen and Scruggs to Volleyball Staff

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College head volleyball coach Lynze Roos has announced a pair of additions to her coaching staff with Emma McElveen and Isaac Scruggs joining the Terriers as assistant coaches.

McElveen comes to Spartanburg after concluding her collegiate playing career. She spent four seasons playing at USC Upstate across town before finishing her career with one season at Wingate. A setter, McElveen amassed over 900 assists in her collegiate career with 52 aces. She was a team captain her final two seasons with the Spartans.

At Wingate, she interned in the marketing and communications department of the Bulldogs. After graduating from Wingate, McElveen spent the summer of 2025 as the supervisor of event operations for AAU Volleyball Nationals in Orlando, Florida. She makes her return to Spartanburg to begin her first collegiate coaching stint.

"We are really excited to add Emma to our staff this season," said Roos. "She's trained under two of the finest coaches I know, so I'm confident that she will bring fresh perspective and new challenges to our squad. "

A native of Windermere, Florida, McElveen graduated from USC Upstate with a Bachelor's degree in communication in 2024, and she added a Master's degree in sports management from Wingate in 2025.

Scruggs joins the Terriers after multiple years on the club scene, serving as a club coach with Carolina One Volleyball Club since 2023. He was a Palmetto Region Volleyball High Performance Coach in 2025. Prior to those coaching roles, Scruggs was a clinics and tryout prep coordinator and coach for middle and high school girls in the midlands and upstate of South Carolina from 2021-23. He also has basketball coaching experience, serving as the head coach for the Women's National Club Basketball team, guiding them to a national championship in 2024.

He was a participant with the men's club volleyball team at South Carolina from 2021-23. Prior to joining Wofford, Scruggs has been working in sales and marketing in Greenville, South Carolina.

"Isaac brings his heart and soul to the gym," said Roos. "We're excited for his fresh perspective and also his pleasant demeanor on the court."

A 2023 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Scruggs earned a Bachelor's degree in psychology.

The duo join associate head coach Ladislav Lelkes on Roos's staff for the 2025 season. The Terriers began preseason practice yesterday, August 5, and play their first match of the campaign on August 29 at Georgia Tech.
