Softball Splits Doubleheader on Day Two of Terrier Invite

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford softball team lost the first game of the day 12-7 to IU Indy but bounced back with a 10-7 victory against Monmouth to close the night. The Terriers improve to 3-1 and have scored double-digit runs in three of their first four games.

"It is really cool to see the fight in our team," said head coach
Chelsea Butler on the bounce back win. "Winning is hard – seeing what Team Three is made of and who is going to step up in big moments is great."

GAME ONE
Margaret Axelson got the start against IU Indy, tossing two innings. Axelson gave up four runs on eight hits.
Natalya Salo suffered the loss against the Jaguars, giving up eight runs on eight hits in five innings pitched.
Brianna Stanley went 3-of-4 with two RBI to lead the team.
Abbi Campbell tallied one hit and two RBI as well.
Kalli Petty,
Emry Masterson and
Lucy Cameron finished with one RBI each.
Desirae Devine had one stolen base.

IU Indy started the game with two runs to take an early lead. Wofford responded in the bottom of the first after
Brianna Stanley tallied her first RBI from a single to center field.
Kalli Petty drove in Stanley with her first triple of the year to tie the game 2-2. The Jaguars grabbed two more runs in the second inning. A
Lucy Cameron double scored
Desirae Devine to shorten the deficit to one. After a scoreless fourth inning from IU Indy, Wofford found the tying run.
Brianna Stanley scored
Kaytlin Greenwood after a double to right center. IU Indy pulled away in the fifth, scoring five runs to take a 9-4 lead. The Jaguars added three more runs later on. A last-ditch effort in the bottom of the seventh came up short for Wofford as the team lost 12-7.

GAME TWO
Freshman
Maddie Berry got her first career start against Monmouth, throwing six innings. Berry gave up seven runs while throwing two strikeouts to earn her first win.
Sydney Baker closed the game, tallying her first save of the season.
Brianna Stanley led the offensive attack after going 3-of-4 with a double, homerun, and three RBI.
Kate Platte followed behind with three hits and two RBI.
Addison Lucier,
Gracie Parker, and
Desirae Devine also had an RBI.
Rivers Sampson led the team with two stolen bases.

The Terriers had a strong start against Monmouth, as
Addison Lucier got the team started with an RBI double.
Brianna Stanley followed that up with her own double, scoring Lucier to give Wofford a 2-0 lead at the end of the first. Monmouth found five runs in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead. An eight-run fourth inning from the Terriers put Wofford ahead for good, however. Gracier Parker started the scoring with an RBI double, and
Desirae Devine followed that up with a sacrifice fly.
Kate Platte scored two runs after another double, with Platte later scoring on a wild pitch.
Rivers Sampson would eventually steal home as well.
Brianna Stanley closed the scoring with a two-run shot to center field. Monmouth added two runs in the sixth inning, but the Terriers were able to close out a 10-7 win against the Hawks.

Wofford will close out the Terrier Invite with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch against Kent State. The Terriers defeated Kent State 11-1 in five innings on Friday. The tournament finale can be streamed live on ESPN+.
