CONWAY, S.C. – Coming off the first loss of the season last week against Spartanburg native USC Upstate, the Terriers traveled to Conway, S.C. and clinched a 4-3 victory over Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon.
In singles action, junior Merry Ellen Henry won at the No. 1 singles position battling Amy Pazahanick 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. Teammate, senior Adriane Hodges also captured a win at the No. 2 singles spot beating Tina Petkova.
The Chanticleers battled for victories at the No. 3 and No. 4 slots, before freshman Haley Baird won at the No. 5 position and secured the match victory for Wofford. Baird’s win came over Fernanda Shalders by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
The Terriers swept Coastal Carolina in doubles action, claiming the first point of the match in favor of Wofford. The Terriers’ duo of Henry and senior Laura Lynn Williams won at the No. 1 doubles position over Pazahanick and Kim Webb 8-5. Teammates Hodges and junior Cayley Wetzig defeated Maria Camberos and Petkova 8-5. Baird and freshman Sonia Anand teamed up for the first time this season and walked away beating Sofie Ahlberg and Shalders 8-2.
Next Wofford will travel to High Point, N.C. Friday for a 1 p.m. match against the High Point Panthers before kicking off a six-match home stanza starting with Emory at noon on Feb. 17 at the Reeves Tennis Center.
