SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Terrier men’s golf team finished second at the 2009 Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate, placing ahead of all other Southern Conference teams in the tournament.
Freshman Mark Joye led the Terriers, carding a four-under par 68 in the second round to finish at one-under par 215 for the weekend (73-68-74). Senior Garrett Medeiros was close behind, scoring an even par 216 (72-73-71) to finish 12th place overall.
Also in the top 15 for the Terriers was senior Mike McKenzie, who recorded scores of 73-70-74 to finish one-over par 217 and tied for 13th place individually. Sophomore Zach Capps scored a 224 (75-69-80) to finish tied for 36th, and freshman Charles Moore rounded out the Terrier five with a score of 231 (77-75-79).
The second-place team finish marks the third time in as many tournaments that the Terriers have finished second. Wofford finished ahead of Southern Conference foes Furman, Georgia Southern, Elon, Davidson and Samford.
The Terriers will compete again November 2-3 at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate in Cashiers, N.C.
