CLINTON, S.C.- The Wofford men’s tennis team won its second consecutive match on Friday afternoon sweeping Presbyterian 7-0 in Clinton, S.C. The Terriers are now 2-5 on the year while the Blue Hose fall to 1-4.

Coach Rod Ray stated, “We had a good performance against a Presbyterian team that fought hard and played with a good spirit. We were just a little bit better today.”
Wofford started off early taking all three doubles matches with ease. In all, the Terriers surrendered a total of eight games with the toughest match coming on court two where Paul Bartholomy and Alan Donald took down Andrew Lee and Patrick Fediuk 8-5. Wofford took the matches on court one and three by an 8-1 and 8-2 margin giving the Terriers the doubles point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. “We demonstrated confidence and focus in our doubles play from beginning to end. Our shot selection and execution were both solid,” noted Ray.
The Terriers continued to maintain control of the match as they won convincingly on courts three, five and six. Tinus Van Wyk faced the toughest challenge of the day as he was taken to three sets. Van Wyk lost the opening set in a tiebreaker, but battled back to take the second set  6-1 and  the match tiebreaker 10-6 to keep the sweep intact. Senior captain Scott Collins was also pushed in the opening set on court one but was able to escape in a tiebreaker and followed up with a 6-2 set in the second to take the win.
“In the singles play, Scott, Danny and Tinus all struggled early, but made good adjustments when they needed to and gained control of themselves and their matches. We played well, but not as well as I anticipate we will we be playing after a few more matches. We are to a point where I believe we will show great improvement with each match,” said Ray.
Wofford will return to the court on February 25 at 2:30 p.m. as they welcome the Charlotte 49ERS for the 2009 home opener.
