Complete Match Results (.pdf)

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Playing their third match in as many days, the Wofford men’s tennis team was defeated by Cornell 7-0 on Friday morning at the Furman Indoor Tennis courts. Wofford is now 3-7 on the season while Cornell improves to 3-2 on the year.

“I was impressed with Cornell’s team. I put them on the schedule because I knew they would be very tough competition and they certainly held up their end of the opportunity,” stated Head Coach Rod Ray “It was closer than the score looked, but when it came down to it we did not take of advantage of the few chances we had.  Cornell plays very good doubles, but we were disappointed when we lost that point.  We played great doubles at No. 1, lost at No. 2, and probably should have won at No. 3.”

Stuart Robertson and Danny Manlow won 8-5 while Alan Donald and Paul Bartholomy lost 8-2 leaving the doubles point up to court No. 3. However, the duo of senior Captain Scott Collins and freshman Tinus Van Wyk were unable to capitalize and were defeated by a single break 8-6 giving Cornell the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Playing number one singles for the second straight match, Robertson lost in a tough third set falling 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Van Wyk also went to a third set for the second straight day but was defeated in a third set match tiebreaker 5-7, 7-6, and 10-6 at the No. 4 position. Wofford was unable to come up with a singles point as the remaining four singles players lost in straight sets.
“In singles, Stuart and Tinus were very close to beating great players at No. 1 and  No. 4,” noted Ray.  After three matches in three days we are going to take the weekend off and get ready for three great days of practice before our next match on Thursday.”

The Terriers will return to action on Thursday March 5 as they play host to UNC Asheville.
