Men’s Tennis Falls To College of Charleston In SoCon Quarters

BURLINGTON, N.C.- The Wofford men’s tennis team was knocked out of the Southern Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon by the College of Charleston 4-1 at the Burlington Tennis Center. The Terriers end the year with their best results since turning Division I finishing 13-11 overall and 6-3 in the Southern Conference.
The Cougars came out and took the opening match in doubles as Tom Delme and Lukas Koncilia took down the Wofford duo of Stuart Robertson and Danny Manlow on court No. 1 by an 8-5 margin. The Terriers then won on court No. 2 as Alan Donald and Paul Bartholomy took down Mickael Trintignac and Mickael Boyer 8-3. The third and deciding match for the doubles point came down to court No. 3 where the Cougar pair of Omer Abramovich and Joe Nicolazzi held off Scott Collins and Tinus van Wyk 9-7.
Leading 1-0 heading into single, the Cougars were able to carry over momentum from doubles play and took three of four singles matches to secure the win. Donald was defeated by Boyer on court No. 5 6-3, 6-1 while Robertson was downed by Abramovich 6-1, 6-1 on court No. 1. The Terriers got on the board and cut the lead to 3-1 as Bartholomy used a single service break in each set to dispatch of Nicolazzi 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 6. However, College of Charleston closed out the match as Trintignac took down van Wyk on court No. 3 6-3, 6-2.
The remaining two singles matches were not finished due to the Cougars already clinching the victory, although Collins was leading by a set on court No. 4 while Manlow was just starting a third set on court No. 2.
College of Charleston advances to take on the winner of Elon and Appalachian State on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the semifinals.
