Men’s Tennis Comeback Falls Short Against Samford

Birmingham, Ala – The Wofford men’s tennis team rallied from an early deficit but fell short to Samford 4-3 on Sunday March, 28. With the loss the Terriers drop to 7-8 on the year and 3-2 in the Southern Conference. Samford improves to 9-7 and 1-4 in the Southern Conference.
Samford was able to take an early lead by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
Samford won the first two matches of singles play to take a decisive 3-0 advantage. Paul Bartholomy defeated Scott Foster 6-4, 6-3 at number three singles to give Wofford its first victory. At number four singles Michael Schecter defeated Oliver Reynolds in three sets. Reynolds won the first set 6-2 but Schecter the second set 6-4. The final set was decided over a ten point tie break which Schecter won 10-5.
Carl Abalso clinched the match for Samford by defeating Tom Wood 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 at number five singles. In the final match of the day Drew Superstein defeated Adam Witcher 6-1, 6-1.
