Men’s Tennis Defeated by Elon

Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford men’s tennis team lost a tough Southern Conference matchup with Elon on Sunday afternoon 6-1 at the Reeves Tennis Center. The loss drops the Terriers record to 7-11 on the season and 3-5 in the Southern Conference. Elon improves to 6-13 and 5-4 in the Southern Conference.
Elon got off to an early lead by winning all three doubles matches including at hard fought victory at number two doubles. In singles play Elon won the first match to push their lead to 2-0.
Michael Schecter won his number five singles match against Cody Stauffer-MacDowell 6-4, 6-2 to give cut the lead to one. Elon went on to win the final four singles matches on their way to a 6-1 victory.
After the match Wofford head coach Rod Ray said “This was an important match for both teams. I thought we tried hard and showed some improvement in certain areas, but Elon stepped up and they were certainly the better team when it mattered. We prepared well, but didn’t quite play to our own expectations.”
The Terriers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 13 when they will host Southern Conference rival Furman in the final home match of the 2010 season. The match will be at 3:00 at the Reeves Tennis Center.
