Gardner-Webb Tournament Gives Men’s Tennis Experience in the Preseason

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A number of players on Coach Ray’s men’s tennis team took the trip to North Carolina to participate in the Gardner-Webb Tennis Tournament this past weekend. The weekend tournament gave many of the younger athletes on the tennis team the opportunity to gain experience on the court, as they faced some of the first college tennis players of their career.

Ten players played in the tournament including: Peter Elbaum, Thomas Fanjoy, Elliott Farmer, Joey Francis, Randall Heffron, Manoli Lakis, Zac Landy, Jack Seiffert, Matthew Shemanski, and Tom Wood.

Freshman Joey Francis showed the best results, winning every match he played in singles and doubles. Francis posted two wins in singles play and one win in doubles, playing with Thomas Fanjoy.

Sophomore Tom Wood played strong throughout the tournament, as well, taking two wins in singles. Wood also grabbed a win in doubles, having Jack Seiffert as a partner.

Each player saw court time, playing in at least one match in the tournament. The tournament was hosted by Gardner-Webb, and included three teams: Wofford, Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian College.
