CLEMSON, S.C. – The men’s tennis program traveled to Clemson, S.C. to face the Tigers in the season opener for Coach Rod Ray’s tennis team. The Terriers were unable to bring home a victory after facing a quality Atlantic Coast Conference team. Clemson defeated Wofford 7-0, giving the Tigers a 1-0 record on the season and putting the Terriers at a 0-1 standing on the year.
The Terriers opened up the spring season at Clemson’s indoor facility, Hoke Sloan Tennis Center, early Saturday morning. Coach Ray gave some of his most experienced players the starting nods, including: Michael Schecter, Stuart Robertson, Alan Donald, Paul Bartholomy, Drew Superstein, and Tom Wood. Freshman Randall Heffron was given his first start as a Terrier, pairing up with Drew Superstein at the No. 3 doubles position.
Despite the Terriers best efforts on the courts, the Tiger’s tennis program proved to be too much, defeating Wofford 7-0. Coach Ray commented on the match saying, “We played a strong Clemson team today. We were ready to go and gave a good effort, but they were better than us today. One of the good things about playing a quality team is that it can really help you and I’m convinced we learned a lot and had a positive experience from today’s loss. We play another good team tomorrow which gives us an immediate opportunity to demonstrate our conviction wanting to learn and improve.”
The Terriers return immediately back to action tomorrow morning. The squad will travel to Columbia, S.C. to face the South Carolina Gamecocks at 10:00 a.m. Be sure to check out the Wofford men’s tennis media guide, available
