CONWAY, S.C. – The men’s tennis team traveled to Coastal Carolina Sunday for their third away match of the season. Alan Donald fought hard for a singles win, but the Chanticleers earned a 6-1 victory after winning the rest of the singles matches and winning the doubles point. The Terriers drop to 1-4 on the season and Coastal Carolina stays unbeaten with a 4-0 record.
After coming off the courts with the all three doubles match wins, the Chanticleers put up an early 1-0 lead.
Alan Donald posted the lone point of the day for the Terriers with a fiercely competitive singles finish. Donald played Alex Funkhouser at the No. 4 position and split the first two sets at 7-5 apiece. The tie-breaker proved to be a fight as well, finishing 11-9. The victory gives Donald his second singles match win in a row.
Drew Superstein’s match finished in a dog fight as well after splitting the first two sets against Dorian Sovic at the No. 5 spot. Sovic barely edged out Superstein in the third set for a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) win.
The Chanticleers were able to win the rest of the singles matches in straight sets, giving them the 6-1 win.
Wofford will return to the road February 17th against Presbyterian College. The match is set to start at 2:30 pm in Clinton, South Carolina.
