Men’s Tennis Set To Begin 2012 Season at South Carolina Saturday Afternoon

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men’s tennis team will begin its 2012 campaign this Saturday afternoon as they travel to Columbia, S.C. to face the University of South Carolina at 4:00 pm.

The Terriers will be led this season by a handful of experienced players, including seniors Tinus Van Wyk and Stuart Robertson, as well as juniors Drew Superstein and Tom Wood.  Also joining this year’s squad is a talented class of seven freshmen.

“We are excited to start the season,” stated head coach Rod Ray about the upcoming season.  “The players have done a nice job of establishing themselves as a team with a strong work ethic and high level of commitment.  We have improved in many small areas that will add up to being a better team down the stretch. I’m really proud of what our team has accomplished so far this year.”

“This team is a lot of fun to work with. We are quite young, but our enthusiasm and love for the game is fantastic. Athletically, we are very good and will only improve as we marinate. As the season unfolds, we will quickly gain experience and improve tremendously. “

“Starting our season against South Carolina poses some challenges, but like most matches early in the season, the real competition is within. I’m anticipating some excellent play from us against very good USC players.”

Following Saturday’s matchup at South Carolina, the Terriers will face Winthrop on Friday, January 27th at 2:00 pm in Rock Hill, S.C.  The home opener for the 2012 season will take place on Tuesday, January 31st as the Terriers host USC Lancaster at 2:30 pm at the Reeves Tennis Center.
